Job Description

Mr. Pups Pet Care's Grooming Salon, located in Seattle's Maple Leaf neighborhood, is hiring a dog groomer for either a part-time or full-time position. While grooming experience and foundational skills are important, we care even more about finding someone whose approach and philosophy align with our salon environment. We're looking for a groomer who prioritizes the comfort and well-being of the dogs in their care, communicates well with clients, and values relationship-based grooming over rushing through appointments. We're happy to continue training the right person in more advanced grooming techniques. Mr. Pups is a community-focused dog care company known for creating a calm, low-stress environment for dogs, clients, and staff alike. Our salon emphasizes individualized care, supportive teamwork, and sustainable grooming practices over high-volume production grooming. We offer a supportive scheduling environment, an established client base, opportunities for continued skill development, and a workplace that values quality grooming, respectful communication, and strong relationships between groomers and their clients. Interested groomers, please submit a resume, and a link to view examples of your grooms, to raquel@mrpupservices.com. Summary As a Dog Groomer at Mr. Pups, you will provide high-quality grooming services while prioritizing the safety, comfort, and well-being of the dogs in your care. This role involves grooming, bathing, brushing, nail trims, coat maintenance, and thoughtful dog handling, while building positive relationships with both clients and their pets. We value groomers who communicate well, work collaboratively, and approach grooming with patience, compassion, and attention to detail. Experience with nervous or behaviorally sensitive dogs, customer service, daycare, kennel work, or other areas of animal care is a plus. While most groomers use their own tools, we keep a salon tool set available to help supplement personal equipment and support newer groomers as they build a collection that fits their preferences and grooming style. We also pay for professional sharpening of staff shears and blades once per quarter. Groomers at Mr. Pups are hired as W-2 employees and earn $28-$30 per hour, plus tips. Part-time positions offer up to 25 hours per week, while full-time schedules generally range from 30-40 hours per week. A Note About Compensation Mr. Pups pays groomers hourly rather than commission-based pay. We've chosen this structure intentionally to support collaboration, thoughtful grooming practices, and a salon culture that prioritizes the wellbeing of dogs and staff over rushing through appointments. Responsibilities Greet dogs and their owners, discuss grooming expectations, and recommend grooming options based on coat condition, lifestyle, and client goals. Handle dogs safely and thoughtfully during grooming sessions, prioritizing each dog's physical and emotional well-being over completing a groom at all costs. Maintain cleanliness, sanitation, and organization of grooming areas, tools, and equipment. Work collaboratively with groomers and bathers to ensure all dogs receive attentive, compassionate care throughout the day. Assist with bathing, drying, and other salon support tasks as needed. Monitor dogs for signs of stress, discomfort, or health concerns, and communicate concerns appropriately to management and owners. Help maintain the overall cleanliness and presentation of the shop through routine spot cleaning and daily upkeep. Skills Genuine love of dogs and commitment to their well-being At least one year of professional dog grooming experience preferred, though we are willing to continue training the right candidate Basic grooming skills, including bathing, brushing, drying, nail trims, and handling during grooming Comfortable working with dogs of all sizes, breeds, ages, and temperaments Commitment to positive reinforcement-based handling and low-stress grooming practices Ability to complete approximately 2-3 full grooms during an 8-hour shift, depending on experience level and dog needs Basic understanding of dog health, safety, and first aid Comfortable communicating directly with clients about grooming expectations and recommendations Positive attitude, professionalism, and willingness to continue learning Understanding of basic sanitation and cleaning procedures Ability to work collaboratively and respectfully in a shared salon environment Weekend availability required; scheduling flexibility preferred Must be at least 18 years old and have reliable transportation
