Dog Trainer (1 year experience required)

A successful Dog Trainer candidate must be passionate about animals and have patience to work with dogs and their individual challenges.

• To thrive in this role, our ideal candidate should possess the following qualities: Calm and assertive energy when working with dogs Confidence in handling dogs of all sizes and breeds Ability to take constructive criticism Reliable, dependable, and act with integrity at work Patience, consistency and the ability to reign in emotions Knowledge of different dog breeds and inherent behavioral variances Strong people-to-people communication skills Familiarity with and/or mastery of job-specific terms and concepts like behavior chains and leash training Ability to work independently and manage time efficiently Your responsibilities will include: • Train dogs basic obedience commands in the technique taught at Canyon View Ranch • Make phone calls to clients regarding training progress of their dog • Take phone calls from prospective clients with questions about training • Document each dogs progress • Perform 45 minute lessons with the dog and it's owner(s) • Supervise dogs in outdoor group play • Observe dogs and report behavioral issues or health concerns • Prevent and break up dog fights • Assist clients • Performs other related duties as assigned by management.

• Interviewing dog owners to understand challenges and goals
• Interacting with high profile clients and providing feedback
• Attention to detail, particularly concerning subtle dog behaviors and common examples of canine communication
• Evaluating dogs in person and identifying potential challenges
• Creating custom training plans for each dog
• Training dogs to walk on and off-leash
• Instructing pet owners how to continue training at home
• Ensure that the kennel and related areas are clean, safe, and well-organized.

Follows protocols for sanitation and hygiene. Appearance and Performance - Reflects a positive image of Canyon View Ranch to the public, including appropriate attire, friendly interaction with dogs, and quieting any barking using proper voice control.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT

Continually required to stand. Continually required to walk. Continually required to utilize both hands and finger dexterity. Occasionally required to climb, balance, bend, stoop, kneel, and crawl. Continually required to talk or hear. While performing the duties of this job, the noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. The employee must occasionally lift and /or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include: Peripheral vision.

Additional remarks regarding physical demands:

Lifting and moving bags of dog food up to 40lbs, handling large dogs on leash and lifting up dogs weighing 50lbs four feet vertically to a grooming table or kennel. In the event of a dog fight, all employees must be able to run quickly to the dogs involved and use proper and safe techniques to break up the fight.
