Job Description

Overview We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Dog Trainer to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a passion for animal care and training, experience in dog handling, pet behavior, and belief in our mission to support adults with disabilities. The Dog Trainer plays a vital role in helping clients and customers develop strong, positive relationships with dogs through effective training techniques. We will train you in how to incorporate your unique skill set into a Job Coach role that provides education, support, fulfillment, and appropriate engagement with clients who seek to have a career tied to working with dogs. RESPONSIBILITIES
Working one on one with adults with disabilities in the community and in the Dog Training Academy (DTA) Teaching dog training concepts: animal psychology, pet first aid, loose leash walking, etc.
Superior documentation and tracking:
maintaining accurate records of interactions, achievements, and challenges to inform ongoing support. Training dogs of various abilities in the program and our community classes Teaching employment concepts: compliance, attendance, task completion, problem solving, professionalism, workplace safety, etc Following and monitoring progress toward individualized goals and adjust support plans as needed. Transportation for participants utilizing personal vehicles Advocating for the rights and needs of individuals with IDD, promoting their inclusion and active participation in the community. Joining clients at their work site, providing support during their shifts ensuring they have a smooth transition into their work environments. Developing and adapting activities to accommodate various client abilities and interests. Continuously monitoring clients' progress in their jobs, providing additional coaching and assistance as needed to ensure job retention and career advancement. ​​Building and maintaining relationships with local employers to create job openings and foster an inclusive work environment for our clients Providing one-on-one mentorship and support, helping clients develop life skills, social skills, money management and independence Facilitating opportunities for clients to participate in community activities and develop social connections. Requirements A certificate in dog training (e.g.
CPDT-KA, CPDT-KSA, AABP-CDT, CBATI, KPA-CTP
) Knowledge of ESA, AAT, and Service Dog training a plus, but not required 1+ year experience working with the Intellectual and Developmentally Disabled (IDD) population BA in Education, SW, Psych or related field and 1 year human services experience; or AA in Education, SW, Psych or related field and 2 years human services experience; or No degree and 4 years human services experience preferred but not required. Use of personal vehicle, phone, and computer for completion of job related tasks as needed (mileage reimbursement available), comprehensive vehicle insurance, and a vehicle that passes inspection Clear Criminal Records Check Demonstrated ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality, listen actively, interpret accurately & respond to a high volume of requests Excellent written and oral communication skills Proficiency in informal counseling techniques and the ability to provide compassionate, person-centered support. Strong project/time management & organizational skills; detail oriented Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to remain patient and empathetic in challenging situations, an ability to set limits/boundaries and follow through, and high levels of compassion Knowledge and sensitivity to cultural differences Initiative and flexibility Supportive, kind, caring and willing to ensure environment is respectful and honest Experience in job development and/or other job services preferred but not required Completion of provided trainings and competency tests
Pay:
$20.00 - $26.00 per hour
