Canine & Feline Behavioral Trainer PAWS Chicago - 3.4 Chicago, IL Job Details Full-time $22 - $25 an hour 1 hour ago Benefits 403(b) matching Health insurance Dental insurance Paid time off Employee assistance program Vision insurance 403(b) Qualifications Record keeping Animal behavior Employee relationship building Animal welfare Behavioral therapy Full Job Description The Canine & Feline Behavioral Trainer is responsible for carrying out the daily training of PAWS Chicago animals requiring behavior support, as identified. The Canine & Feline Behavioral Trainer will assist in the creation of training plans and their respective implementation for the focus population. The Trainer is also responsible for leading, assisting and supporting the Animal Care Team and Volunteers in maintaining training plans for identified animals in the care of PAWS Chicago. The Trainer works in collaboration with the Adoption Team and Foster Team to conduct pre-meets with potential adopters or fosters as needed. Additionally, the Trainer is responsible for offering behavior support for in house animals in the medical exam setting, animals in foster care and post adoption as needed. Duties and Responsibilities Adoption Center & Medical Center Responsible for the daily training, behavior modification, enrichment and management needs of dogs/cats as identified by the behavior team. Work with the Behavior Team to ensure every dog over 6 months of age gets properly assessed. Use all information known in time to assign the appropriate adoption recommendations for the animals utilizing objective data gathered thus far. Assist in the creation of behavior support plans. Implement behavior support plans while maintaining accurate record keeping of daily progress and growth of the focus population. Lead and support Volunteers and the Animal Care Team in maintaining behavior support plans for dogs/cats across both locations including, but not limited to, offering continued education opportunities to bolster staff/volunteer behavior knowledge. Facilitate training classes and workshops for volunteers as needed. Maintain a steady flow of SAFERS for the foster team to pull for foster placements, as well as assist in any dog to dogs needed for pickups. Provide behavior support for any animal in foster as needed. Provide behavior support for adopters as needed. Support daily training center administration by implementing creative, demand-based programming initiatives to expand services and increase income opportunities. Other duties as assigned. Requirements Minimum of 4 years of animal training or behavior experience Training certification or extensive professional dog training background Experience and ability to train dogs of all sizes and breeds Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to forge effective relationships with a wide variety of people under a wide variety of circumstances Written and verbal communication skills which will allow accurate record keeping Ability to life and carry up to 50lbs for short amounts of time Ability to remain sitting or standing for a normal workday Ability to hear and see in various conditions Ability to work days/evenings and weekends Proven organizational skills with attention to detail Ability to work well under pressure in a dynamic and team-oriented environment Passion for animals and animal welfare
