Position Summary The Cat Adoption Coordinator supports the mission of Second Chance Pet Adoptions by ensuring that every cat is placed into a loving, permanent home through a thorough, compassionate, and professional adoption process. This role combines administrative responsibilities, matchmaking expertise, and hands-on coordination with foster caregivers and adopters to provide an excellent experience for all involved. Key Responsibilities1. Demonstrate and Support Second Chance Values Promote a humane and caring attitude toward all animals and treat all animals with respect and compassion at all times. Treat people with respect; contributes to effective teamwork; fosters good public relations beneficial to the organization and its programs. Work courteously and cooperatively with staff, volunteers, and board members, to ensure that all established procedures and policies of the organization are followed. Foster strong, professional relationships with area Animal Shelters, other animal rescue organizations, veterinarians used to provide treatment to animals in the program, and other stakeholders who support the organization. 2. Adoption Coordination Review adoption applications and ensure that veterinary and landlord reference checks are completed accurately and in a timely manner. Serve as a matchmaker between approved adopters and adoptable cats, prioritizing compatibility and long-term success. Coordinate meet-and-greet appointments with cats in foster homes or at the Adoption Center. Manage adoption approvals, denials, and referrals according to established policies and ensure communication with applicants is timely and compassionate. Finalize adoptions, including reviewing and signing adoption contracts, collecting fees, and scheduling "go-home" dates. Train volunteers how to review adoption contracts and complete final adoption paperwork with new adopters. Coordinate the cat foster program, including processing foster applications, maintaining foster onboarding resources and manuals, and providing non-medical support to foster caregivers. Support program development by training volunteers in customer service best practices and effective matchmaking techniques; develop and maintain Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for the cat adoption program. 3. Marketing & Promotion Write engaging, accurate bios for cats that highlight their personalities, quirks, and adoption readiness, and ensure each cat has high quality photo(s) in their adoption profile. Collaborate with the communications team to ensure all listings (website, Petfinder, social media) are up-to-date and compelling. 4. Event Support Attend and oversee Paws and Purrs adoption events two Saturdays per month, ensuring smooth setup, volunteer coordination, and successful cat-adopter interactions. Assist with cat-related aspects of fundraising and community events, including Evening of Pawsibilities (EOP) and Racing for Rescues (RFR). 5. Other Duties Perform other tasks or special projects as assigned by the Senior Director of Operations. Qualifications Minimum 21 years of age. At least 2 years of professional cat handling experience. Able to work compassionately with adopters, volunteers, and the public, including managing tough or emotionally complex situations with patience and professionalism. Experience scheduling and training volunteers. High energy, positive attitude, and strong teamwork orientation. Excellent communication (verbal and written) and organizational skills. Ability to multitask, adapt quickly, and work independently with minimal supervision. Strong time management and attention to detail. Experience with Google Workspace (Docs, Calendar, Sheets), Excel, and ability to learn industry-specific software. Valid driver's license, good driving record, and reliable transportation. Flexibility to work some evenings and weekends as needed. Working Conditions Regularly required to talk, hear, stand, walk, reach, stoop, crouch, or crawl. Occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds. Work involves handling and caring for cats. Some duties performed in a fast-paced, noisy, or physically demanding environment.
