This role is a balance of hands-on animal care with human connection. You'll support, train, and communicate with our amazing foster volunteers to keep them excited about this important work! Variety & Purpose:
No two days are the same. From intake exams to managing foster placements and owner surrenders, there are always opportunities to learn something new and make a difference in an animal's life. Team Collaboration:
You'll work closely with all of our incredible teams including Clinic, Adoptions, Programs, and Animal Care to ensure every animal receives the support they need. Your Role:
Support and communicate regularly with foster volunteers Recruit, onboard, and train new foster caregivers Match animals with appropriate foster homes based on needs and environment Track foster data Intake animals into the foster program and prepare them for placement Schedule and complete foster animal vaccine appointments Communicate medical updates and concerns with the Clinic Team Maintain a clean, organized, and well-stocked foster nursery Perform intake exams, including vaccines and dewormer, and document medical and behavioral information in PetPoint Assist with owner surrenders including application review and follow up, appointment setting, and compassionate communication. surrender applications and gather detailed animal histories Assist with transport logistics, including cleaning and restocking vehicles, work areas, and supplies Requirements:
"People person" is a must because success in this role depends on meaningful relationships with our network of foster volunteers and positive collaboration with teammates! Passion for animal welfare and a commitment to our mission Strong communication and customer service skills Highly organized with attention to detail - accurate data entry is critical in this role! High degree of comfort with technology and ability to learn multiple new software systems Flexible schedule; this role is open to either a five eight's or four ten's arrangement, likely including a weekend day. Emotional maturity, resilience, and compassion when working with people and animals in challenging situations Self-starter who can creatively problem solve and be resourceful in the face of road blocks and shifting priorities Experience in animal welfare, veterinary medicine, or sheltering is a plus, but emotional intelligence and alignment with SPCA-NN's mission and values matter the most. This position requires standing/walking for long periods of time, at times on concrete; repetitive use of both hands, visual acuity, bending, walking, lifting (up to 50 lbs unassisted), reaching, squatting, kneeling, pushing/pulling, grasping, reading and writing both simple and complex material. Work is performed in an animal shelter with moderate lighting and temperature, at times outdoors in varying weather conditions. At times in confined areas. At times conducting transports to rural areas. Work includes driving a van. Work is performed with cats and dogs, with other humans both face-to-face and virtually. Can you perform these essential functions as described with or without accommodations? This is a full-time position, with weekend availability needed. Can you work within the schedule as described? Please note any days/times you are unavailable. When are you looking to start a new position? Can you reliably commute to 4950 Spectrum Blvd to arrive on time for shifts beginning at 8 a.m.? The pay for this position is $20/hour. We offer 56 hours of annual sick time after 90 days, and benefit eligibility after 60 days. We offer PTO accrued based on hours worked.
