This is a way of life job involving the day to day care and training of 50 or more equines, including various breeds of horses as well as donkeys, mules, mini horses and ponies along with the occasional alpaca, sheep or goats. Duties Provide daily care for rescued horses, including cleaning, feeding, grooming, health monitoring, and stable management. Assess each horse's physical condition using physiology knowledge and anatomy expertise to develop individualized care plans. Collaborate with veterinary professionals to ensure optimal health care and follow prescribed treatment plans. Educate team members or volunteers on proper handling techniques, equine anatomy, and program design for consistent care standards. Document all care activities, training progress, and behavioral observations thoroughly for ongoing assessment. Monitor the occasional mare in foal and participate in the starting of young horses as well as the periodic older horse who has had no training. Promote a positive team environment by sharing knowledge and experiences training and rehabilitating equines. Experience Proven experience working with horses in rescue or rehabilitation settings is highly preferred. Experience with mules, donkeys and minis as well as crosses of those is a positive benefit Strong understanding of equine physiology, anatomy, and body mechanics essential for effective care and training. Excellent communication skills for collaborating with veterinary teams, farriers and educating volunteers or staff about proper handling techniques.
