The Barber is responsible for providing premium men's grooming and classic barbering services, including precision hair cutting, tapering, fading, and traditional straight-razor hot shaves. This role delivers exceptional guest service while maintaining an immaculate grooming station, blending classic traditions with luxury spa hospitality.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Ensures the quality guest service standards for guests. Performs barbering services that meet the established guidelines for the type of service offering and that fulfill guest expectations. Understands and uses universal precautions when providing straight razor and cutting services. Assesses contraindications of guests (such as skin irritations or open abrasions) that may prevent a shave or facial service from taking place. Maintains the highest level of product knowledge and has complete knowledge of all men's grooming and spa services presently offered. Recommends high-end beard oils, post-shave balms, and hair products for home use. Performs all treatments on the services' menu and suggests to guest's other beneficial treatments offered in the spa. Cleans, oils, and disinfects clippers, shears, razors, and guards daily. Understands the ingredients in grooming products and can explain their benefits to the guests. Answer guests' questions in a knowledgeable and professional manner.
Mastery of Hair Cutting & Shaping:
Demonstrates expert execution in all aspects of men's haircutting, including precision scissor work, clipper fades, tapers, blending, and texturizing.
Traditional Shave Specialty:
Performs expert straight-razor shaves utilizing classic hot towel preparation, rich lather application, skin stretching, and soothing post-shave facial massage techniques.
Beard & Mustache Grooming:
Proficient in detailing, lining, and shaping facial hair using clippers, trimmers, and straight edges to complement facial structures. Begins and ends all appointments on time and works assigned schedule. Ensures that work areas are clean and set according to sanitation procedures. Informs Spa Manager of product needs. Creates and maintains client cards with grooming preference notes when appropriate. Completes all assigned side work and attends all scheduled meetings and professional trainings. Assist staff with lifting and storing facility equipment, furniture, and products to help maintain the facility and prepare for special events. Reports any incidents or accidents (including minor nicks or cuts) to a member of the management team. Adheres to regulatory, departmental, and company policies in an ethical manner and encourages others to do the same. Ensure compliance with health, safety, and hygiene regulations. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND EXPERIENCE
Required High School Diploma or GED. Appropriate active licensure required (State Barber License preferred, or Cosmetology License with verified proficiency in straight-razor and classic barbering techniques). Must be able to build quick rapport with guests and explain various grooming treatments/services. Excellent customer service skills and work ethic. Efficient, well organized, and able to handle a variety of duties simultaneously. Energetic, enthusiastic, and professional manner, discretion, and appearance. Good verbal and written skills; strong team player with a comfort level making retail product recommendations.
Availability when needed:
This could include nights, weekends, and holidays.
PHYSICAL, MENTAL, AND ENVIRONMENTAL DEMANDS
Ability to lift 25 lbs. Ability to stand for long periods. Awareness of proper body mechanics to prevent injury. Exerting up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move light objects. This position requires the following abilities: balancing, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, tactile sense, repetitive motions, seeing, hearing, talking, and visual acuity. The employee will be required to operate the following tools: scissors, blow dryers, flat irons, curling irons, color products, brushes, combs, curlers, clips, foils, and bleach. Work conditions include exposure to noise, vibrations, mist, fumes, odors, chemicals, and burns.
