Position Summary:
The CTE Cosmetology teacher is primarily responsible for effective teaching and learning of the assigned subject(s) following district approved curriculum, instruction and assessment practices. Another primary responsibility includes student safety and appropriate collaboration and attention to each student's readiness to learn including needed guidance, discipline, and welfare. The CTE Cosmetology teacher is responsible for the ongoing development of course curriculum and assessment, fostering a supportive learning environment that emphasizes student learning and safety. This position is in the Cosmetology Career Pathways at the Sabin Schellenberg Professional Technical Center. The state-of-the-art facility provides 3 classrooms and a salon that includes shampoo bowls, manicure tables, pedicure chairs, and hair cutting/styling stations. The courses taught may include Intro to Cosmetology, Cosmetology 1, Cosmetology 2, or Cosmetology 3. The CTE Cosmetology teacher must be able to teach the following: Hair design (including color, cutting, perms, styling, and multi textured hair care), Nail technology, and aesthetics and Industry standard safety and sanitation practices in a classroom and salon environment. The CTE Cosmetology teacher cooperates with other faculty in promoting activities of a SkillsUSA chapter, a workforce organization for students. The CTE Cosmetology teacher supports the organization and maintenance of an active cosmetology advisory board.
License Requirement:
The candidate must hold or be able to obtain a CTE teaching license in position subject area. The candidate may also already be an Oregon licensed teacher with industry experience or someone without a teaching license who has industry experience who is interested in pursuing a CTE teaching license. In order to qualify for a CTE teaching license, the applicant must show recent and relevant knowledge in the industry that they want to teach. The district works closely with a CTE Regional Coordinator who will support candidates by providing assistance and facilitation with CTE licensure and Program of Study needs or requirements.
PLEASE NOTE
If a Restricted CTE Teaching license is needed, the Oregon Department of Education will also require a CTE Professional Development Plan. The Associate Director of Human Resources and the CTE Regional Coordinator will provide the steps if this is required.

Salary:
Career and Technical Education (CTE) Professional Salary Placement qualifies a candidate for placement at the Bachelors level of the salary schedule.
PLEASE NOTE
North Clackamas Schools is negotiating the licensed contract for the 26-27 school year. Below is our Annual Salary Range for the 25-26 school year: Annual Salary Range (2025-2026): $58,788- $111,463 (193-Day Contract). Initial placement based on education, experience. This salary range reflects 1.0 FTE. Actual salary is prorated based on FTE and start date. Stipend(s) are pro-rated based on 1.0 FTE and start/end dates of position/assignment. As a licensed employee, you are eligible to receive: A stipend of $2,500 if certified by NBPTS (National Board for Professional Teaching Standards). A stipend of $3,000 if you hold a PhD or EdD.
Retirement Contribution:
North Clackamas School District participates in the Oregon Public Employee Retirement System (PERS and OPSRP) on behalf of its employees. The district contributes the employer portion; there is also a mandatory employee portion. Upon eligibility, which is defined as working at least six full calendar months in a qualifying position, the employee is required to contribute 6% as their employee portion, via payroll deduction. Part-time employees working at least six months and 600 hours in a calendar year will qualify.
Minimum Qualifications:
Must have or meet the requirements to obtain an Oregon CTE Teaching license with a Human Services CTE endorsement. Must have at least two years work experience in the cosmetology industry as a Licensed Cosmetologist. Must hold an active Cosmetologist license. Must have successful experience in working with culturally diverse families and communities, or have otherwise demonstrated a commitment to strengthening engagement of a diverse community and skill in communicating with a diverse population. Must be skilled in working with adolescents and other educators. Evidence of continuous professional learning and a commitment to participate in professional growth opportunities and self-reflection on professional practice. Demonstrated content knowledge for subjects/levels being taught. Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing with parents, students, and staff. Commitment to effective collaboration and teaming within a professional learning community. Skill in classroom management and ability to achieve, support, and maintain acceptable student behavior. Knowledge of and ability to use appropriate and multiple assessment, instruction, and evaluation techniques. Knowledge of child and adolescent development and ability to that knowledge to the selection and application of curriculum materials and instructional practices. Knowledge and skill in the use of strategies necessary to meet the diverse needs of students. Knowledge and skill in culturally responsive teaching and learning. Skill and ability to utilize technology to aid instruction, assessment and learning.
Desired Qualifications:
Experience working with people of diverse backgrounds. Bilingual Spanish/English. Successful experience working with high-school aged youth. A background in teaching Career Technical Education. Demonstrated success working in a team. Successful experience working with all hair types including naturally textured hair. Experience in salon business and managing a salon.
