The successful candidate will support students in developing technical skills, professionalism, employability skills, and pathways toward licensure and postsecondary opportunities.
Supervisory ResponsibilitiesNoneEssential FunctionsDevelop and deliver instruction in cosmetology theory and practical applications, including: oHair cutting and styling oHair coloring and chemical treatments oNail technology oSkin care and esthetics oSanitation and infection control oCustomer service and salon management Prepare students for state cosmetology licensing examinations and industry certifications. Develop lesson plans aligned with state CTE standards, curriculum frameworks, and district goals. Provide hands-on laboratory instruction using industry-standard equipment, tools, and techniques. Maintain a safe and clean salon/laboratory environment in accordance with health and safety regulations. Assess student performance through practical demonstrations, written evaluations, and competency-based assessments. Integrate employability skills, professionalism, communication, and workplace expectations into instruction. Establish and maintain relationships with local businesses and industry partners to support internships, work-based learning, and career opportunities. Maintain accurate student records, grades, attendance, and certification documentation. Participate in curriculum development, advisory committees, professional development, and school improvement initiatives. Supervise students during classroom, laboratory, and community-based learning activities. Communicate effectively with students, parents/guardians, administrators, and industry partners. Support and enforce school district policies, procedures, and student conduct expectations. Perform other duties as assigned by the administration. Required Knowledge/Skills/AbilitiesKnowledge of cosmetology principles, techniques, sanitation standards, and safety regulations. Ability to demonstrate and teach technical cosmetology skills. Ability to differentiate instruction to meet varying student learning needs. Ability to foster positive relationships with students and industry partners. Ability to manage a laboratory/shop environment safely and effectively. Strong interpersonal, problem-solving, and collaboration skills.
Education and ExperienceValid Rhode Island Department of Health Cosmetology Instructor License.
Eligible for or holding Rhode Island Career and Technical Education certification in Cosmetology.
Demonstrated knowledge of Rhode Island cosmetology licensing standards and industry practices.
Minimum of 5 years of recent industry experience in cosmetology or related field preferred. Ability to work effectively with diverse student populations. Strong classroom management, organizational, and communication skills. Proficiency with instructional technology and student data systems.
Physical RequirementsAbility to stand for extended periods of time. Ability to lift and move cosmetology equipment and supplies as needed. Ability to demonstrate cosmetology techniques requiring fine motor skills and manual dexterity.
Occasional evening or weekend events to support family engagement or professional development.
