Primary Purpose:
The Cosmetology/Barbering Teacher within the Human Services Career Cluster is dedicated to providing students with engaging and relevant learning activities and experiences in Cosmetology and Barbering. This role is designed to cultivate students' maximum potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth. The teacher will empower students to develop essential competencies and skills, preparing them for success in higher education and their future careers in the beauty and grooming industry.
Qualifications/Skills:
Knowledge of Cosmetology or Barbering skills including hair, skin and nail technology General knowledge of curriculum and instruction of CTE Cosmetology Instructor Ability to supervise students who are working with community clients Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills Knowledge of Laws and Regulations for the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation Maintain emotional control under stress Frequent standing, stooping, bending, pulling, and pushing TDLR barbering or cosmetology license in the specialty area teaching Maintain emotional control under stress Occasional district and regional travel, occasional statewide travel, prolonged and irregular hours
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
Instructional Management Provide students with appropriate learning activities and experiences designed to help them fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth. Enable students to develop competencies and skills to function successfully in society, and prepare students for the Texas Cosmetology Exam or the Class A Barber License. Develop and implement lesson plans that fulfill the requirements of current TEKS and show written evidence of preparation as required. Develop and implement lesson plans that fulfill the requirement of The Texas Department of License and Regulations. Present subject matter according to guidelines established by Texas Education Agency, board policies, Texas Department of License and Regulation, and administrative regulations. Plan and use appropriate instructional and learning strategies, activities, materials, and equipment that reflect an understanding of the needs of students assigned. Work cooperatively with special education teachers to modify curricula as needed for special education students according to guidelines established in Individual Education Plans (IEP). Use technology to strengthen the teaching/learning process. Conduct ongoing assessment of student achievement through formal and informal testing. Help students learn employability skills. School or Organization Improvement Participate in staff development activities to improve job-related skills. Maintain license through continuing education as required by the state. Keep informed of and comply with state, district, and school regulations and policies for classroom teachers. Student Management Ability to instruct students and manage their behavior. Classroom Management and Organization. School or Community Relations Establish and maintain open communication by conducting conferences with parents, students, counselors, principals, and teachers. Maintain a professional relationship with colleagues, students, parents, and community members. Supervisory Responsibilities Accompany and supervise students at all off-campus activities including contests, workshops, and field trips associated with the Cosmetology program. Oversee the process of maintaining facilities and equipment including the Cosmetology/Barbering lab, Cosmetology/Barbering classroom, and any other facilities that encompass Cosmetology/Barbering support. Prepare monthly hourly reports for The Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation. Ordering supplies and understanding a budget. Other Plan and conduct leadership, citizenship, cooperative, career development, and competitive activities for students at local, regional, and state levels. Regular Attendance. Occasional district and regional travel, occasional statewide travel, prolonged and irregular hours. Other duties as assigned.
