Job Description

As a Barbering Instructor, you'll have the opportunity to shape the next generation of licensed professionals while making a direct impact on student success. In this dynamic, hands-on role, you'll deliver engaging technical instruction in all aspects of barbering, including hair cutting fundamentals, shaving techniques, and mustache and beard design, along with the theory and skills needed to prepare students for state licensure. You'll create an environment that supports skill development, confidence, and real-world readiness. Beyond the classroom, you'll play a key role in guiding student success by verifying competencies, providing mentorship and advisement, and supporting student retention. You'll also maintain accurate student records and build relationships with local employers to help connect graduates with career opportunities in the industry. This position works under the direction of the Barber Instructor/Coordinator and the Program Manager, and reflects OTECH's core values of Community, Learning, and Integrity. Provide students with technical instruction in a safe, clean and productive learning environment. Administer and correct tests; maintain progress and attendance on students. Advance the retention of students in support of achieving program membership hour goals. Assist students with job placement and applicable industry or state certifications/licenses in support of meeting program placement and certification goals. Maintain contact with area employers; elicit feedback regarding curricula and industry trends. Develop annual professional development plan and participate in professional development activities. Motivate and advise students in the areas of appropriate work behavior, training, or study habits. Assist counselors, supervisor, and other staff as necessary to resolve issues affecting student training. Follow the daily operational direction and schedule of the Lead Instructor/Coordinator. Be available to work as scheduled, including evenings, to support all the program operating hours. Encourage and exemplify professionalism and good work habits. Support programmatic and College marketing activities. Work cooperatively within the College community. Control the use of equipment and supplies; recommend purchases. The incumbent shall perform other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience Requirements:
High School diploma or equivalent Current cosmetology/barbering license required. Preference will be given to those individuals that hold a cosmetology/barbering instructor license. Minimum of one year of documented practical cosmetology experience or required on the job training to obtain instructor license. Preference will be given to those individuals who have salon/teaching experience. Proficient in using computers, computer technology, and computer software related to position.
Physical Requirements:
1. Work requires physical exertion. May require the ability to stand long periods, bend, crouch, stoop, stretch, reach, lift moderately heavy items (up to 20 lbs.) when doing inventory or receiving supplies. 2. Risks which require the use of special safety precautions and/or equipment, e.g., scissors, razors, clippers, cleaning Chemicals, etc.
WORKING HOURS
Monday and Thursday evenings 12:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.
CONDITIONAL OFFER
: A conditional offer of employment will be made pending satisfactory completion of a background investigation.
