Job Description

Fernwood Cemetery, Funeral Home & Crematory - Mill Valley, CA Full-Time | Hourly | Non-Exempt Fernwood Cemetery is seeking a compassionate, detail-oriented Crematory Operator to support the safe, legal, and dignified operation of our on-site crematory. This role is hands-on and requires strong attention to detail, professionalism, and a commitment to respectful decedent care. Key Responsibilities Perform cremations in compliance with California law and Fernwood policies. Receive, identify, and prepare decedents for cremation or burial. Maintain accurate chain of custody, documentation, and required cremation records. Process cremated remains, including packaging, labeling, and proper handling. Clean and maintain crematory equipment and work areas. Assist with witness cremations and other services while provide compassionate family support. Respond to first-call transfers, including after-hours and on-call needs. Monitor inventory and communicate supply or operational needs to management. Qualifications Current California Crematory Manager License preferred; ability to obtain and maintain licensure is required. Valid California driver's license with a clean driving record. 2+ years of crematory or funeral service experience preferred. Strong attention to detail and ability to follow strict procedures. Ability to work independently and handle multiple priorities. Professional, compassionate demeanor. Ability to lift up to 100 lbs. and work in a physically demanding environment. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Outlook, and Excel) required Additional Information Work involves exposure to heat, noise, and chemicals in a regulated environment. Must comply with OSHA and California regulatory standards. $25.00 - $28.00 per hour
