Funeral Director Assistant Guerra Gutierrez Mortuary Los Angeles, CA Job Details Full-time $17.81 - $19.00 an hour 1 hour ago Qualifications Teamwork Customer service High school diploma or GED Driver's License Attention to detail Organizational skills Full Job Description Position Overview Guerra Gutierrez Mortuary is seeking a compassionate, professional, and dependable Funeral Director's Service Assistant to support funeral and memorial services. This role is essential in ensuring services run smoothly while providing exceptional care and support to families during one of the most difficult times in their lives. The ideal candidate presents a calm, reassuring, and confident demeanor, enjoys helping others, and is comfortable working in a sensitive environment. Candidates must also be available to work evening services and maintain open availability on weekends to accommodate the scheduling needs of funeral and memorial services. Key Responsibilities Greet families and guests in a caring and comforting manner. Remain visible and attentive to family needs throughout visitations and services. Answer questions and assist families, guests, and visitors. Direct visitors to guest books and distribute memorial materials. Make announcements regarding service information, speakers, and family requests. Provide casket bearing directions or assist with bearing when necessary. Set up register books, prayer cards/folders, service signs, easels, and flower arrangements (on-site and off-site). Ensure refreshments are prepared and available. Receive flower deliveries, log delivery details, and oversee proper placement. Ensure public areas (lobby, chapels, restrooms, reception areas) are cleaned before, during, and after services. Confirm decedent identification and appearance per family requests. Assure the print bag includes all required materials (register book, checks for clergy/church/musicians, crucifix, memorial video, etc.). Communicate with arrangers and staff to ensure smooth service transitions. Update service checklists for directors continuing services. Oversee parking and arrange vehicles for formal processions. Assist with lifting caskets. Drive funeral coach to designated service locations (valid California Driver's License required). Ensure company vehicles are cleaned, stocked with supplies, and fueled before and after services. Operate DVD and sound systems for services. Complete a comprehensive written report of each funeral service (same-day submission). Provide general cleanup before and after services. Occasionally assist with hands-on contact with the decedent as needed. Analyze situations and recommend improvements to service quality. Qualifications High School Diploma or GED. Valid California Driver's License. Ability to lift 75 lbs and stand for extended periods. Comfortable with public speaking. Ability to work weekends, holidays, and varying shifts. Professional appearance and adherence to company dress code. Previous experience in a mortuary or funeral service setting. Ideal Candidate Bilingual (Spanish & English). Strong communication and organizational skills. Ability to remain calm and compassionate in emotionally sensitive situations. Demonstrates empathy and professionalism at all times. Communicates clearly and confidently with grieving families. Takes initiative and maintains attention to detail. Works well in a team-oriented environment. Handles emotionally sensitive situations with grace and composured.
