Job Description

About Us - The New Haven Solid Waste & Recycling Authority The New Haven Solid Waste and Recycling Authority is dedicated to achieving the most environmentally sound solid waste management and resource conservation program for the people of New Haven and surrounding communities. Position Overview The Part-Time Gate Attendant supports transfer station operations by assisting customers entering the facility and the Residential Drop-Off area. This role is responsible for directing incoming vehicles, ensuring compliance with site procedures and drop-off guidelines. This position is essential to maintaining efficient site operations and advancing NHSWRA's commitment to environmental responsibility and public service. Key Responsibilities
  • Greet and direct incoming vehicles.
  • Visually inspect and review incoming loads to confirm compliance with Residential Drop-Off Guidelines.
  • Verify vehicle eligibility for use of the Residential Drop-Off area.
  • Confirm residency before directing residents to the Residential Drop-Off area.
  • Coordinate with the Residential Drop-Off Attendant to support efficient site operations.
  • Direct vehicles to the appropriate disposal or recycling areas.
  • Ensure compliance with Residential Drop-Off rules and procedures.
  • Complete end-of-shift material reports.
  • Maintain a clean and safe work area.
  • Perform general outdoor maintenance, including, raking, cleaning and sweeping.
  • Communicate effectively with the public, site staff, the Deputy Director, and the Executive Director.
  • Complete administrative and additional reporting tasks as needed.
  • Perform related duties as assigned by NHSWRA management. Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Strong customer service skills.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team. Work Environment & Physical Requirements
  • Work is performed primarily outdoors.
  • Frequent interaction with the public is required.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods.
  • Ability to perform routine outdoor maintenance tasks.
  • Must be able to work in varied weather conditions.
  • Physically capable of lifting, carrying, and positioning materials of various shapes and sizes, approximately 50 lbs. Schedule
  • Approximately 15 Hours Per Week
  • Part-time schedule, Monday through Saturday.
  • Hours and days vary based on operational needs.
Pay:
$20.00 - $22.00 per hour
