ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY
Strickland Funeral Services, P.A. is seeking a skilled, dependable, and compassionate licensed embalmer/mortician to join our team long-term. We are a independent, family-owned funeral home that believes deeply in dignified care, strong embalming standards, and creating meaningful viewing experiences for families. We are looking for someone who takes genuine pride in the craft of embalming and understands the importance of preparation, quality, presentation, and professionalism. Our ideal candidate is an experienced embalmer comfortable handling both standard and difficult cases including trauma, edema, decomposition, autopsy, and donor restoration. We are also open to a motivated embalmer with strong foundational experience from a high-volume environment who is eager to grow and learn advanced techniques. This role is heavily focused on embalming, restoration, preparation room operations, and supporting high-quality services and viewing.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
Perform embalming, restoration, dressing, casketing, and preparation for final disposition Assess body condition and determine appropriate preservation and restorative techniques Handle standard and difficult embalming cases using sound professional judgment Create natural, peaceful, and dignified presentations for families Maintain strict identification and chain-of-custody standards Follow OSHA, bloodborne pathogen, and formaldehyde safety standards Maintain a clean, organized, and sanitary preparation room Prepare decedents for identification viewings Attend first viewings to assist with reasonable, family requested modifications Communicate effectively with funeral directors regarding preparation needs, clothing, timing, and family preferences Complete embalming reports and related documentation accurately Assist with removals, transfers, and shipping preparations as needed

QUALIFICATIONS
Preferred Candidate 5+ years of embalming experience Strong restorative and difficult-case experience preferred Experience handling autopsy, trauma, edema, decomposition, or donor cases Alternative Experience Path 3+ years of experience in a high-volume funeral home environment Strong embalming fundamentals and willingness to learn advanced techniques and case-specific approaches Additional Requirements Current Maryland Mortician license required Valid driver's license Motorized 1000lbs mortuary lift available but candidate should also have the ability to safely lift and transfer decedents with assistance when necessary.
COMPENSATION
Compensation range: $60,000 - $100,000 Compensation will be competitive and commensurate with experience, skill level, case proficiency, licensure, and overall fit for the role. We are committed to recognizing and rewarding excellence.
