General Public•G Job Duties Serve Virginia's veterans and their family members by ensuring they receive the benefits, support, quality care, and recognition they have earned through service and sacrifice. Assist the Cemetery Superintendent with administrations in the operation and overall daily functions of the Albert G. Horton, Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery in Suffolk. Works directly with Funeral Directors and family members, securing supporting documentation for verification of eligibility using all appropriate channels, data entry and scheduling/attending cemetery services for the deceased. Performs additional duties as assigned by the Cemetery Superintendent in matters concerning the veteran's cemetery. Minimum Qualifications Knowledge of burial and funeral procedures. Ability to work in an ever changing fast-paced work environment. Multi-phone line experience, filing, skilled in the use of computers, BOSS data entry, responding to routine inquires. Familiar with cemetery grounds equipment/procedures. Ability to interpret and apply complex laws and regulations. Read and maintain cemetery maps, logs and schedules. Ability to communicate effectively with the general public both orally and in writing. Ability to make sound decisions in the absence of the Cemetery Superintendent. Ability to direct others. Must be detailed and multi-task orientated. Familiar with the maintenance of buildings and grounds of a small/medium size cemetery [0-1500 burials per year]. Ability to work outside in all weather conditions. This position requires extensive work outside to include daily gravesite and memorial verifications, coordinating funeral services, assisting visitors to gravesites and/or cemetery tours. Must be able to work with large groups of people. On occasions as determined by the Cemeteries Director/Cemetery Superintendent there will be times you will be required to work on Saturdays and/or Sundays, and during specific holidays throughout the year (i.e. Memorial Day, Veterans Day, etc.).
