Job Description

General Manager (Licensed Funeral Director) Thompson Funeral Service Group - Chippewa Valley, Wisconsin Thompson Funeral Home & Cremation Care Hulke Family Funeral Home & Cremation Services Chippewa Valley Cremation Services & Celebration of Life Center Thompson Funeral Service Group, located in the heart of the beautiful Chippewa Valley of Western Wisconsin, is seeking an experienced and motivated General Manager (GM) to join our growing organization immediately. The GM will oversee operations across our three locations in Eau Claire, Altoona, and Bloomer, serving approximately 550-600 families annually. Our organization also operates its own off-site crematory, allowing us to provide a high level of care and service to the families we serve. This leadership position works directly alongside ownership and is responsible for the overall management of staff and daily operations.
Responsibilities include:
Interviewing, hiring, and onboarding employees Staff leadership, coaching, and performance reviews Scheduling and team development Overseeing day-to-day funeral home operations Assisting with arrangements, services, and family care Maintaining a strong culture of professionalism, compassion, and teamwork Because this is a hands-on leadership role within a demanding profession, we are seeking candidates with a minimum of five years of licensed funeral directing experience with or able to attain a Wisconsin FD License immediately. The ideal candidate will be both employee-focused and family-focused, with the ability to lead by example and work alongside the team when needed. Participation in a limited night-call rotation is required. We believe strongly in protecting your personal time and maintaining manageable schedules for our staff. We recognize that burnout is a real thing in the funeral service profession and we do everything we can to combat that. Thompson Funeral Service Group is committed to taking excellent care of our staff and offers a highly competitive compensation and benefits package, including: Salary of 90K-135K based on experience Performance-based annual bonus (target is 10% of salary) Three weeks (15 days) paid vacation in the bank on day 1. Four weeks at year two.
