Position:
(Purpose of the Position): The Football Laundry Worker is an essential member of the St. Olaf Football support staff. This position is responsible for washing, drying, folding, and organizing all laundry associated with the football program, including daily practice laundry loops, towels, workout gear, and full game uniforms. Each player has a laundry loop that contains their practice clothing; these loops must be washed, dried, and returned to the correct locker promptly. Towels are collected, washed, and folded daily. After each game—home or away—game uniforms must be collected, washed separately, dried or hung properly, and placed back in the equipment room in an organized manner. You will be fully trained on how to operate washers and dryers, including which settings are appropriate for towels, loops, game uniforms, and specialty items. Proper laundry care helps maintain the quality of our equipment and ensures our team is prepared to practice and compete at a high level. This position requires responsibility, reliability, and attention to detail. Laundry must be completed in a timely manner—including late nights after home and away games when the team returns to campus and uniforms need immediate washing.
Transferable Skills:
Working in this role develops several important skills that translate directly into everyday life, future employment, and leadership responsibilities: Responsibility and Ownership Workers learn to take full responsibility for completing essential tasks that impact the entire football program. Time Management and Dependability Laundry has strict deadlines—especially after games. Learning to manage time and stay on task builds strong habits. Attention to Detail Sorting items, using correct washer settings, and returning items to the proper place require focus and accuracy. Work Ethic & Follow-Through Staying late after games or managing high laundry volume teaches dedication and the importance of finishing a job the right way. Task Management Workers learn how to organize workflow, prioritize tasks, and complete multiple steps in a consistent system. Care for Equipment & Materials Proper handling of uniforms and towels teaches respect for gear and reinforces professionalism. Teamwork & Communication Communicating with the equipment staff and coaches ensures that the team's needs are met and that laundry is completed correctly.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Daily Practice Laundry Collect players' laundry loops after practice. Wash loops using the correct washer settings. Dry loops thoroughly and return them to each player's locker. Wash and fold all towels used during practice. Maintain a clean and organized laundry area. Game Day Laundry Collect game uniforms immediately after home games. For away games, wash uniforms as soon as the team returns to campus—even late at night when necessary. Wash game uniforms separately and with the correct settings to avoid damage. Hang uniforms in the equipment room according to the program's organizational system. Ensure everything is completed and ready for the next day's activities. Equipment Care & Proper Handling Use washer/dryer settings correctly for towels, loops, practice gear, and game uniforms. Treat all uniforms and equipment with care—these items are costly and must be maintained properly. Report any damaged equipment or laundry issues to the equipment room staff immediately. Professional Expectations Arrive on time and complete all assigned shifts. Stay until all laundry is finished—even if it requires late hours after games. Work efficiently and stay on task during busy laundry times. Keep laundry areas clean, organized, and safe. Maintain team confidentiality and respect the equipment room environment.
