Model Preparation Technician Hourly Rate:

Position Overview:
The Model Preparation Technician is responsible for turning customer-submitted photos into clean, accurate, print-ready 3D models. This role is not responsible for operating the 3D printers directly. Instead, the technician manages the digital preparation process, including AI model generation, file review, model correction, customer revision handling, print preparation, and slicer bed layout.
Ideal candidate:
A person that is detail-oriented, comfortable working with 3D software, and able to balance technical accuracy with customer expectations. This position requires a strong eye for detail, basic 3D modeling/editing skills, and the ability to follow a structured workflow from customer upload through final print-ready file preparation.
Key Responsibilities:
Customer Photo Review and AI Model Generation:
- Review customer-submitted photos to confirm they are usable for 3D model creation.
- Upload customer images into Polyview's model generation API.
- Adjust API settings when needed to achieve the best possible model output based on the available photos.
- Review generated models for accuracy, detail, proportions, and texture quality.
- Re-run or fine-tune the API process when needed to improve the model result.

D Model Cleanup and Editing:
- Open generated 3D models in Blender for inspection and cleanup.
- Fix visible model issues such as geometry errors, holes, rough surfaces, incorrect proportions, texture problems, or missing details.
- Make manual improvements to help the model better match the customer's photos.
- Ensure models are clean, complete, and suitable for customer review.
- Maintain consistent quality standards across all prepared models.
Customer Approval Workflow:
- Upload completed preview models to the company NAS.
- This will Generate customer approval links through the Meshality website and notify the customer.
- Review customer feedback and requested changes submitted through the website customer portal.
- Make requested revisions when possible and resubmit the updated model for approval.
- limited customer interaction thru the portal may be needed to communicate changes.
- Continue the revision process until the customer approves the model.
Print Preparation:
- Once the customer approves the model, prepare the file for 3D printing using Materialised Magics.
- Check and repair files for print readiness, including watertightness, wall issues, mesh errors, and other print-related concerns.
- Confirm the model is properly scaled, oriented, and prepared for the intended print process.
- Export final production-ready files.
Slicer and Build Layout:
- Load approved and prepared files into the Sailner software.
- Arrange models on the print bed for efficient production.
- Save the bed layouts for the printer operators or production team.
File Management and Documentation:
- Maintain organized customer files, including original photos, generated models, revised models, approved models, and print-ready files.
- Follow naming conventions and folder structures for the NAS and production systems.
- Track job status through the approval and preparation workflow.
- Communicate any model quality issues, unclear customer requests, or production concerns to the appropriate team lead.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
- Experience with Blender or similar 3D modeling software.
- Basic understanding of 3D model cleanup, mesh repair, and file preparation.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to identify visual and technical model issues.
- Comfortable working with customer-submitted photos and matching models to reference images.
- Ability to learn and operate AI/API-based 3D model generation tools.
- Ability to follow a structured production workflow.
- Good file organization skills.
- Clear written communication for internal notes and customer revision tracking.
- Ability to work efficiently while maintaining quality standards.
Preferred Skills:
- Experience with Materialise Magics.
- Experience with 3D printing file preparation.
- Experience preparing full-color 3D print files.
- Experience with slicer software and print bed layout.
- Familiarity with OBJ, STL, 3MF, texture files, and related 3D file formats.
- Basic knowledge of UV maps, textures, mesh repair, scaling, and model orientation.
- Experience in a production, manufacturing, design, or digital art environment.
What This Role Does Not Include:
This position does not require operating the 3D printers, performing printer maintenance, post-processing printed parts, packing orders, or shipping finished products. The Model Preparation Technician focuses on the digital model preparation process before the file is handed off to the production team. This position also does not include the handling of customer support related issues such as dissatisfaction, broken prints, shipping issues, payment issues, or other non-print revision related
