We specialize in premium custom menswear with a focus on craftsmanship, fit, and personalized service. Our team is passionate about helping clients build wardrobes that are sharp, timeless, and uniquely their own. Position Summary Commonwealth Proper is seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Luxury Menswear Tailor / Alterations Specialist to join our Philadelphia team. We are looking for an experienced professional with at least 5 years of tailoring and alterations experience working with high-end menswear garments. This role is ideal for someone who takes pride in craftsmanship, understands luxury garment construction, and enjoys working directly with clients to deliver exceptional fit and service. The position offers flexible scheduling with the potential to grow into a full-time role. Responsibilities Perform expert alterations and tailoring on luxury custom menswear garments including suits, sport coats, trousers, shirts, tuxedos, and outerwear Conduct professional customer fittings and communicate alteration recommendations clearly and confidently Measure, pin, cut, sew, and finish garments with exceptional precision and attention to detail Perform hemming, tapering, resizing, sleeve adjustments, waist suppression, jacket refinements, and other advanced alterations Press, steam, and prepare garments to luxury presentation standards Operate industrial tailoring equipment including sewing machines, blind stitch machines, buttonhole machines, pressing equipment, and steam equipment Maintain an organized, clean, and efficient tailoring workspace Manage multiple alteration projects while maintaining quality standards and meeting deadlines Track alteration work and communicate timelines, garment issues, and supply needs with the production and sales teams Assist with quality control and ensure all finished garments meet Commonwealth Proper standards Qualifications Minimum 5 years of professional tailoring and alterations experience Strong experience working with luxury menswear required Experience with custom clothing, made-to-measure, or bespoke garments strongly preferred Advanced knowledge of garment construction, fitting, and finishing techniques Skilled in both machine sewing and hand-sewing techniques Ability to perform fittings independently and interact professionally with clients Strong attention to detail, craftsmanship, organization, and time management Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team environment Professional demeanor and strong customer service skills Preferred Qualifications Experience in luxury retail or custom clothing environments Pattern making or garment production experience Familiarity with soft construction tailoring techniques Experience working with fine fabrics and premium garments Schedule & Benefits Flexible part-time schedule Opportunity for full-time employment Competitive compensation based on experience Creative and collaborative luxury retail environment To apply, please submit your resume along with any relevant tailoring experience, portfolio photos, or examples of past work.
