About the Role We're hiring a part-time Seamstress to handle custom alterations and adaptive modifications for our customers. This is a hands-on, skilled role working with real garments for real people. A typical week might include hemming a pair of pants for a customer using a wheelchair, adding side-seam openings for easier dressing, swapping buttons for Velcro closures, or adjusting a shirt to accommodate a feeding tube. You'll work on-site at our Richmond warehouse with a small, collaborative team. What You'll Do Perform standard alterations: hemming, taking in, letting out, resizing, and fit adjustments Complete adaptive modifications such as adding velcro or magnetic closures, converting back openings to side or front openings, modifying necklines and sleeves, and adjusting garments for wheelchair users or limited mobility Follow our adaptive clothing guide for common requests, or create new ones for custom alterations Track alteration orders from intake to completion and maintain a clean, organized workspace Communicate with the Warehouse Manager on turnaround times, material needs, and any orders that need special attention Assist in the custom labeling of products where needed What We're Looking For Solid sewing and alterations experience (3+ years preferred) Comfort working with a range of fabrics including knits, stretch wovens, and denim Proficiency with industrial and domestic sewing machines; sergers a plus Problem-solving mindset — adaptive work often means figuring out a custom solution, not just following a pattern Attention to detail and pride in finished work Reliability and consistency; you show up when scheduled Schedule & Flexibility This is a 15-20 hour per week role, on-site at our Richmond warehouse. We're flexible on specific days and hours and will work with you to build a schedule that fits your life. Occasional flexibility to take on additional hours during busy periods is a plus.
