This role is ideal for someone who is confident working independently, understands quality production standards, and can help establish an efficient upholstery workflow within a growing furniture company. The right candidate will have strong hands-on upholstery skills, good judgment, and the ability to manage upholstery projects from start to finish with minimal oversight. Basic carpentry or woodworking knowledge is a plus, especially as it relates to frames, repairs, and furniture construction. Responsibilities Upholster chairs, benches, ottomans, cushions, panels, and other furniture components Cut, sew, staple, wrap, and finish upholstery materials to a high standard Work with fabric, leather, foam, batting, webbing, and related upholstery materials Read work orders, drawings, measurements, and production notes Build and maintain repeatable processes for in-house upholstery production Manage upholstery jobs independently from prep through final quality check Identify material needs, track supplies, and communicate purchasing needs Troubleshoot fit, finish, comfort, and construction issues Collaborate with the production team on custom projects and product development Maintain a clean, organized, and safe upholstery workspace Assist with light furniture assembly, frame adjustments, or repairs as needed Qualifications Proven upholstery experience, ideally with furniture, commercial seating, or custom work Ability to work independently and manage upholstery projects without close supervision Strong understanding of upholstery tools, materials, and techniques Comfortable cutting, sewing, patterning, stapling, stretching, and finishing High attention to detail and pride in clean, consistent workmanship Ability to work efficiently while maintaining quality Basic carpentry, woodworking, or furniture frame knowledge is a plus Experience with commercial furniture or production environments is a plus Reliable, organized, and comfortable taking ownership of a new in-house function Ideal Candidate You are a skilled upholsterer who does not need training. You know how to look at a piece, understand what needs to happen, and execute cleanly. You are comfortable being the main upholstery person in the shop and helping RAD build this capability from the ground up. Compensation Compensation will be based on experience and skill level. Full-time preferred, but open to discussing the right structure for the right candidate.
