Job Description

RH is seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Spring Specialist to join our Dennis & Leen/Formations Workshop in Torrance, CA. This role plays a critical part in the upholstery department, ensuring the comfort, longevity, and authenticity of our handcrafted furniture. The Spring Specialist installs and secures spring systems within seating frames using traditional methods that uphold the integrity and heritage of antique-style design. In this role, you bring expert craftsmanship, precision, and a passion for preserving the art of traditional upholstery.
YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES
Install and secure coil springs using traditional 8-way hand-tied techniques to ensure lasting comfort, support, and durability Work with antique-style furniture frames, interpreting design specifications and historical references Collaborate closely with upholsterers, frame builders, and designers to maintain alignment in style, proportion, and quality Inspect and repair spring systems in restoration or reupholstery projects, preserving original craftsmanship whenever possible Maintain tools, twine, and materials used in springing to ensure optimal performance and condition Uphold safety standards, maintain an organized workspace, and contribute to a clean, efficient workshop environment Participate in continuous improvement efforts focused on quality, consistency, and production efficiency
OUR REQUIREMENTS
3+ years of experience in upholstery springing, preferably in luxury or antique-style furniture production Mastery of 8-way hand-tied springing and other traditional upholstery techniques Strong understanding of furniture construction and historical upholstery methods Excellent manual dexterity and attention to detail when working with frames and spring systems Experience reading and interpreting design drawings and upholstery specifications Commitment to craftsmanship and preserving traditional furniture-making methods Experience in luxury or custom furniture workshops preferred Knowledge of period furniture styles and historical upholstery practices preferred Formal training in upholstery or furniture making preferred
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Handles and moves furniture frames and upholstery materials weighing up to 75 lbs. regularly Performs repetitive hand-tied motions and detailed alignment requiring strength and precision Stands, bends, and lifts for extended periods in a workshop environment Works in areas with exposure to dust, noise, and upholstery materials while adhering to safety and PPE standards Operates hand tools and upholstery equipment requiring dexterity, control, and sustained focus
