Our work helps healthcare organizations extend the life of their furniture assets, maintain professional environments, and make informed furniture-related decisions. We are looking for a skilled and dependable Upholstery Technician to join our team.
  • Position Summary The Upholstery Technician is responsible for repairing, rebuilding, and reupholstering furniture used in healthcare environments.
This role requires strong hands-on skills, attention to detail, and the ability to produce high-quality work that meets company standards and client expectations. The ideal candidate has experience working with commercial furniture, healthcare furniture, vinyl, fabric, foam, frames, and related upholstery materials. This person should be comfortable working both independently and as part of a team in a shop or client-site setting.
  • Key Responsibilities
  • Inspect furniture to determine upholstery, repair, foam, frame, or refinishing needs
  • Remove old fabric, vinyl, staples, foam, and other materials from furniture
  • Cut, sew, stretch, and install upholstery materials according to project specifications
  • Repair or replace foam, padding, springs, webbing, decking, and support components
  • Perform minor frame repairs and structural adjustments as needed
  • Work with healthcare-grade vinyls, fabrics, and other commercial upholstery materials
  • Ensure finished pieces are clean, professional, durable, and ready for client use
  • Follow work orders, project notes, measurements, and client-specific requirements
  • Maintain accurate records of completed work, materials used, and project status
  • Assist with furniture pickup, delivery, loading, unloading, or installation when needed
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area
  • Use tools and equipment safely, including staple guns, sewing machines, hand tools, cutting tools, and power tools
  • Communicate repair needs, material shortages, or project concerns to management
  • Support other furniture repair, refinishing, storage, or moving tasks as needed
  • Qualifications
  • Previous upholstery experience required
  • Experience with commercial, healthcare, hospitality, or institutional furniture preferred
  • Ability to cut, sew, stretch, and install upholstery materials accurately
  • Experience using industrial sewing machines, staple guns, hand tools, and upholstery equipment
  • Ability to read work orders, measurements, and basic project instructions
  • Strong attention to detail and pride in workmanship
  • Ability to troubleshoot furniture repair issues
  • Dependable, organized, and able to manage time effectively
  • Able to work independently and as part of a team
  • Professional attitude when working around clients, hospitals, and healthcare staff
  • Valid driver's license preferred
  • Physical Requirements
  • Ability to lift and move furniture and materials, typically up to 50 pounds
  • Ability to stand, bend, kneel, reach, pull, and use hand tools throughout the workday
  • Ability to work in a shop environment and occasionally at client facilities
  • Comfortable handling furniture, upholstery materials, foam, adhesives, staples, and related supplies
  • Preferred Skills
  • Healthcare furniture repair or upholstery experience
  • Knowledge of commercial-grade vinyls and fabrics
  • Foam shaping and cushion rebuilding experience
  • Pattern-making and sewing experience
  • Basic wood repair or furniture frame repair skills
  • Experience working with recliners, lounge chairs, exam room furniture, waiting room seating, office chairs, and other healthcare furniture
