Job Description:
Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced Aircraft Seat Technician to join our corporate aircraft interior team. The successful candidate will specialize in the disassembly, overhaul, re-foam, re-cover, and re-installation of crew and passenger seats for business jets. Youll own the full seat process from frame to final fit, ensuring perfect comfort, function, and finish while meeting FAA flammability and 16g compliance requirements.
Key Responsibilities
Seat Teardown & Rebuild
Disassemble corporate aircraft seats, divans, and jumpseats down to frame level; catalog hardware, placards, and components for reassembly
Inspect seat structures, recline/leg rest/tracking mechanisms, and safety belts for wear, damage, or SB/AD compliance; coordinate repairs with mechanical team
Rebuild seat assemblies including new foam shaping, suspension systems, fire-blocking layers, and lumbar/knee bolster installations
Foam & Comfort Work
Contour, shape, and bond multi-density foam per engineering drawings and ergonomic specs to achieve proper sit profile and comfort
Install Dacron, silk film, PUD, and fire-block as required; verify foam assemblies pass burn and egress requirements
Cover Installation & Fit
Install sewn leather, vinyl, and UL fabric covers onto seat assemblies, ensuring wrinkle-free fit, crisp edges, correct pattern match, and hidden attachment
Perform final detail work: hand-close seams, install welting/piping, align stitching to frame features, and set seatback shrouds, arm caps, and headrests
Function-test all seat mechanisms after cover install: recline, swivel, tracking, leg rests, and TTOL positions
Removal & Installation
Remove and reinstall completed seat units in aircraft while protecting leather, wood, and adjacent finishes; torque and safety hardware per AMM
Verify proper fit to seat tracks, electrical connections for powered seats, and placard placement per
FAR 25.853
Quality & Compliance
Inspect all seat work for craftsmanship, comfort, mechanism function, seam alignment, and cosmetic defects
Ensure all materials, foams, and cover assemblies meet FAA burn requirements with full traceability
Complete work orders, 8110-3 references, return-to-service paperwork, and material trace tags accurately
Communication
Work directly with upholstery, sewing, and engineering teams on foam mods, cover fit issues, and customer change requests
Communicate status, squawks, and ETAs to team leads and project managers; interface with customers during installs/delivery
Requirements
Experience
3+ years hands-on experience building corporate or general aviation aircraft seats required
Technical Skills
Expert ability to read seat-specific engineering drawings, CMMs, work instructions, and foam templates
Proficient with pneumatic hog-ring tools, staple guns, foam saws/shapers, adhesives, and hand tools for seat assembly
Deep knowledge of FAA Part 25 flammability, 16g HIC requirements, approved materials, and burn testing processes
Understanding of seat belt/OEM mechanism overhaul and functional rigging
Strong pattern fit and cover installation skills on complex compound curves
Core Competencies
Exceptional attention to comfort, aesthetics, and mechanical function
Ability to diagnose and solve fit, wrinkle, or mechanism issues without supervision
High level of craftsmanship &8212; seats are the most touched item in the cabin
Works well under deadline in AOG or delivery-driven environments
Performance Expectations
Quality Workmanship:
Zero defects on delivery; seats function smoothly, look perfect, and pass customer acceptance first time
Efficiency:
Meet budgeted hours for seat shipsets; minimize rework and material waste
Safety:
PPE, adhesive/solvent handling, and lock-out/tag-out procedures during R&R
Customer Service:
Treat every seat like its for your own aircraft &8212; comfort and presentation matter
Work Environment
Schedule:
Flexible schedule required, including evenings/weekends for project milestones and AOG calls
Physical Demands:
Lift 50+ lbs, maneuver complete seat assemblies, bend/kneel in cabins, and perform repetitive handwork for 8+ hours
Travel:
May travel with aircraft for on-site seat installations, removals, or field repairs
