MC - Sewer

General Description of Position:

Operate sewing machine to perform upholstery and cover sewing functions. Handles materials to and from workstations. Duties (Essential): Follows production schedule and operates sewing machine to perform sewing functions such as joining, reinforcing, monograms, decorating, topstitching, etc. Uses scissors, small hand tools, needles, cutting knives, and staples in normal performance of duties. Handles materials to and from workstations. Sews pieces as required for each boat. Trims materials as appropriate. Keeps records on boat types, numbers and colors. Inspect completed work to ensure quality sewing operations. Makes repairs as necessary. Maintains clean and orderly work area and observes safety procedures and precautions. Essential

Education & Work Experience :

Must have at least one year's previous sewing experience, preferably with upholstery. Needs to be knowledgeable of sewing operations. Needs to be knowledgeable of boat types and sewing operations required for each type. Needs to be able to use small hand tools, needles, etc.

Environmental and Working Conditions:

Works in a production area where temperature and ventilation are controlled. Work area is characterized by continuous high noise level. Requires working in a sitting position for long periods of time with arms reaching and extended. Requires long periods of intense concentration and eye and hand coordination. Requires moderate lifting (up to 50 lbs.), with or without accommodation, plus occasional standing, kneeling, crouching and bending. Requires normal vision, hearing and talking.

Skills & Aptitudes:

Language skills

• Able to understand spoken instructions with regard to job training and safety concerns and the ability to speak conversational English. Reasoning skills
• Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed finishing of all products. Ability to deal with changes related to equipment use and productivity. MC
