Vet Technician Assistant

We are looking for full time but would consider a part-timer temporarily in the role as a Vet Technician or Assistant. Certified technician is preferred but will also consider an assistant. This person assists the doctors and team to the fullest possible extent. Your role is to help improve the quality of care given to the patients and their owners. We expect excellence in customer service, friendliness, good verbal communication skills, ability to follow direction, efficiency, motivated, quick thinker, and a problem solver. You will be an integral part of helping to aid the doctors in achieving greater efficiency by relieving them of technical work. We are looking for someone who

Support the hospital, the doctors, and the practice philosophy of excellence. Communicates efficiently and courteously to pet owners. Help in initial examination of the pet and collects pertinent history from the client regarding the pet to relay this information correctly to the doctor. Obtains or assists in collecting laboratory samples including blood, feces, and urine. Preparation for procedures and testing procedures while utilizing proper knowledge of biosafety. Ability to monitor patients during anesthesia and in recovery. Has experience with Avimark to document medical records and client transactions. knowledge or ability to learn basic understanding of pharmaceutical drugs, common diseases and their signs, means of transmission, treatment and prevention, and other basic preventative health care recommendations. Correctly dispenses and administers medications, vaccines, and treatments as prescribed by veterinarians. Provides specialized care for injured or ill animals with compassion. Assures that monitoring and support equipment such as anesthetic machines, cardiac monitors, scopes and breathing apparatus are in good working condition. Assists in diagnostic, medical and surgical procedures using a range of high-tech diagnostic equipment including electrocardiographic, radiographic and ultrasonographic equipment. Takes radiographs. Maintains knowledge of preventative healthcare recommendations in order to answer client questions, provide education on vaccines, flea and heartworm products, and assist in marketing veterinary services from which their pet would benefit, such as a dental cleaning, senior wellness, spay and neuter and boarding. Educates clients on products and medications sold including dietary products and answer questions regarding product purchase/use. Maintains inventory of pharmaceuticals, equipment and supplies. Cleans, maintains, and sterilizes instruments, equipment, and materials. Performs other duties as assigned. experience or more preferred but may be willing to train the right candidate as an assistant. Please do not include hobbies or farming in experience hours.

EDUCATION

Licensed technician not required but preferred. PAY Pay will be based on education/licensure status and years experience at job role. We may also start you at a training salary while we evaluate the mastery of any skills you have. We are not open on Saturday to the public, but hours will include some scheduled, rotated weekends depending on boarding and hospitalized patients. Schedule is typically a 4 day work week.
