). Thornton Animal Hospital in Opelika, AL is hiring an exceptional Licensed Veterinary Technician or Veterinary Assistant ! This is a non-student, temporary (to permanent)

person! We are looking for a very specific person for this role, who is able to foster positive interactions with others in a constructive environment that keeps things professional and friendly! Clinic Hours are Monday through Friday (7:30 am-5:30 pm) and Saturdays (8:00 am-Noon). Schedules may entail 1-2 afternoons off per week, with occasional Saturday mornings, as needed. Teamwork, professionalism and flexibility is a must. Recent Experience is strongly preferred for full-time position and pay is dependent upon experience, ability and licensure (if applicable). TAH is a drug-free workplace. Background checks required. No telephone calls please.

Required qualifications/experience:
Our ideal candidate will have a strong history in the veterinary profession. Recent experience is required. Experience using Avimark is desired. High School Diploma is a minimum requirement. Desired personality

At all times, a veterinary technician or veterinary assistant must maintain a warm, yet professional appearance and demeanor. Applicants must have a professional work ethic, positive personality, self-motivation, excellent organizational skills and have the ability to multi-task efficiently. If you are not a people-pleaser, this position will be difficult for you. Ability to take ongoing direction and training is necessary in order to learn the many detailed specifications of this job. A strong work ethic is needed to be successful in this position. If you tend to be absent from work often, success in this position would be impossible. As a Licensed Veterinary Technician or Veterinary Assistant (duties vary according to licensure): You will be focusing on client services at all times. Whatever a client needs, we provide to our best abilities, and your ability to anticipate needs is paramount. You are always offering a friendly smile, strong eye contact and an approachable demeanor. You are a compassionate listener. You speak clearly, slowly, and calmly in person and on the telephone in a way that clients easily understand. You will assess immediately upon arrival each client's rare need, as well as the pet's general condition. You will offer emotional support and resource materials to grieving clients in a compassionate and discreet manner. We need you to have amazing customer service skills, ensuring our clients are happy, returning, and referring others. You will be required to rotate weekends, as well as holidays with other employees as needed. You compassionately, calmly and gently approach and handle our patients according to safety protocols and our core values. You understand our hospital estimates and can clearly present and explain them to our clients. You have patience and empathy to address client concerns. You will educate clients in the areas of their pet's health and appropriate home care. You prepare medications according to discharge orders with concise directions for our clients. You will learn our vaccine protocol and assist the doctor in preparing vaccines for patients. You will be responsible for maintaining accurate and thorough medical records. You will clean and disinfect areas of the hospital as often as is necessary to maintain high standards of care. You prepare patient meals, clean patient cages and bedding, and maintain litter boxes. You will assist the doctors in treatments and safely approach/restrain cooperative patients as needed during treatments. You will provide routine attention to patients, including walking dogs. You observe patients for obvious signs of health concerns and report any findings to senior staff. Other duties as assigned by your Supervisor.
