Job description: Thornton Animal Hospital in Opelika, AL is hiring an additional Veterinary Receptionist/Office Assistant for up front! This is a non-student, temporary (to permanent)

person! We are looking for a very specific person for this role, who is able to foster positive interactions with others in a constructive environment that keeps things professional and friendly! Clinic Hours are Monday through Friday (7:30 am-5:30 pm) and Saturdays (8:00 am-Noon). Schedules may entail 1-2 afternoons off per week, with occasional Saturday mornings, as needed. Teamwork, professionalism and flexibility is a must. TAH is a drug-free workplace. No telephone calls please. Veterinary receptionists are the friendly faces and voices that greet you when you walk into a clinic or call about your pet. Their role is much more than just answering phones—they're the backbone of our veterinary office. From managing appointments to supporting the clinic's daily operations, we are seeking a professional candidate to keep everything running smoothly. A veterinary receptionists role is like the glue that holds the clinic together. We are willing to train a conscientious person who has excellent people skills and loves animals. What Veterinary Receptionists do? Veterinary receptionists handle a mix of administrative tasks and client interactions, making them essential to clinic operations. Strong communication and organizational skills are key for managing appointments, records, and client concerns. Customer service plays a big role—receptionists help create a welcoming environment for pet owners and their furry friends. They often juggle multiple responsibilities, from coordinating with veterinary staff to processing payments. Manages Appointment Schedules and acts as the gatekeeper of the clinic's schedule. They juggle phone calls, online bookings, and walk-ins to ensure the veterinarian's time is used efficiently. This includes coordinating follow-ups, cancellations, and emergency visits. A well-organized calendar keeps the clinic running smoothly and minimizes client wait times. Handles Client Communications, often as the first point of contact for pet owners. They answer questions, provide basic information about services, and relay messages to the veterinarian/veterinary assistants. Whether it's a worried pet parent or someone scheduling a routine check-up, clear and empathetic communication is key. Responding to phone inquiries promptly. Managing email and online requests Addressing client concerns with professionalism. Maintain Patient Records Cleaning or organizing front office areas, maintaining a neat and organized work area. Essential Skills for Veterinary Receptionists Strong Interpersonal Abilities. Being a veterinary receptionist isn't just about answering phones; it's about connecting with people. A calm, empathetic demeanor is your superpower. It helps build trust and reassures clients that their pets are in good hands. Listening actively and communicating clearly are non-negotiable skills here. Enjoy talking to people and connecting with them. Our clients are treated like family at TAH. Proficiency in Office Software, experience in Avimark a plus. Attention to Detail. Details matter. A lot. The ability to multi-task is a necessity for this position. We need you to be enthusiastic with the attitude of "make things go right." You must have an A+, outgoing attitude even when stressful situations arise. At all times, a receptionist must maintain a warm, yet professional appearance and demeanor. Responsible work ethic and strong work attendance history. High School Diploma and Full-Time Availability during open clinic hours is a must. Pay is dependent upon experience. No telephone calls please.
