At Somers Avenue Animal Hospital , we're more than just a veterinary clinic—we're a close-knit, personable team that prides itself on delivering exceptional care to both small animals and exotics . We're looking for a compassionate, motivated, and experienced Veterinary Assistant who thrives in a collaborative, fast-paced environment and is passionate about making a difference for pets and their people. What You'll Do Assist veterinarians and technicians with exams, treatments, and surgical procedures Safely handle and restrain a variety of species (yes, even the spicy ones!) Prepare patients for surgery and support anesthesia monitoring and recovery Administer medications and vaccines as directed Perform laboratory tasks such as blood draws, urinalysis, and diagnostic testing Maintain accurate and thorough medical records Educate clients on preventive care, nutrition, and overall pet wellness Help keep our hospital clean, organized, and running smoothly Support grooming basics like nail trims and bathing when needed What We're Looking For Previous veterinary assistant or technician experience (required) Strong knowledge of veterinary terminology, anatomy, and animal care Confidence in animal handling, restraint, and patient care Experience with catheter placement and critical care is a plus Familiarity with dental procedures and terminology preferred Laboratory experience is a bonus Comfort working with exotic species (or willingness to learn!)
