Job Purpose:
The purpose of the Veterinary Doctor Assistant is to assist in providing high quality medical support and administrative assistance to the Doctor Team. The Veterinary Doctor Assistant will be assigned to assist the Doctors within the surgery department. Duties & Responsibilities of the
Veterinary Doctor Assistant:
  • Collecting and documenting (in SOAP) initial patient histories and starting discharge instructions based on doctor recommended treatments. A knowledge of veterinary terminology is required, however, a general knowledge base of medical terminology is acceptable and veterinary specific can be learned
  • Starting an estimate and reviewing with the owner based on doctor recommended treatments
  • Communicating doctor approved estimate to either client liaison or directly to the client
  • Utilizing and entering treatments into Smartflow for patient care as requested by the doctor
  • Providing an excellent client experience by keeping clients informed on their pet's care and ability to discuss finances with care and compassion
  • Ensure diagnostics and treatments are being started in a timely manner, including submission of laboratory samples and radiology requests
  • Documenting lab results, treatments or other medical record details in SOAP as directed by the attending doctor
  • Call in pharmacy prescriptions
  • Facilitate patient discharge with clients
  • Call clients for postoperative updates and to communicate basic diagnostic test results at the discretion of the doctor
  • Any additional duties to help increase the efficiency of the doctor team
Administrative Duties:

  • Follow OSHA requirements
  • Follow practice's health and safety protocols Administrative
  • Be proficient in using our veterinary practice-management software (EzyVet, SmartFlow, Otto Flow, Google Docs/Excel)
  • Assist Client Experience Specialists (front office) as necessary
  • Attend staff and individual meetings as scheduled Teamwork
  • Participates in a positive manner in all group sizes.
  • Refrains from participating in gossip-leads by example.
  • Supports team members by assisting other areas, is receptive to feedback and suggestions.
  • Engages in active problem-solving vs. problem-identifying.
  • Makes suggestions related to client/patient service improvements and hospital efficiency. Required Knowledge/Skills

Preferred Skills:
  • Medical transcription or scribe experience
  • Technician assistant experience

$17.00 - $24.00 per hour
