We are looking for someone with strong technical abilities, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work efficiently alongside doctors and RVTs in a busy medical environment. The ideal candidate is dependable, detail-oriented, motivated, and capable of confidently handling both patient care and client interaction. This is not an entry-level position. Previous recent veterinary hospital experience is required.
Required Qualifications:
Minimum 2+ years of veterinary assistant experience required Strong animal restraint and handling skills Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment Knowledge of veterinary terminology and basic patient care Excellent communication and client service skills Dependable, organized, and professional Ability to multitask and prioritize effectively Comfortable discussing treatments, diagnostics, and preventative care with clients
Technical Skills & Experience Preferred:
Animal restraint for exams, treatments, blood draws, and radiographs Assisting with venipuncture and IV catheter placement Surgical preparation and patient recovery assistance Assisting with anesthesia monitoring Dental assisting Taking diagnostic radiographs Running in-house laboratory tests Filling medications and understanding basic medication protocols Proper cleaning, sterilization, and maintenance of surgical instruments Monitoring hospitalized patients and reporting concerns to doctors/RVTs Experience assisting in emergency and urgent care situations preferred
Job Duties:
Check clients and patients into exam rooms efficiently and professionally Obtain detailed patient histories and accurately enter information into medical records Assist veterinarians and RVTs during examinations and treatments Properly restrain patients for procedures and diagnostics Prepare treatment plans, estimates, and consent forms Discuss diagnostics, treatments, and recommendations with clients Educate clients on preventative care, medications, and discharge instructions Recommend and sell flea, tick, heartworm, and other preventative products Prepare treatment areas, surgical suites, and equipment Assist with surgery and anesthesia preparation/recovery Perform radiographs and assist with diagnostics Prepare laboratory samples and run in-house lab work Fill prescriptions and prepare medications as directed Monitor hospitalized patients and communicate changes to medical staff Clean, disinfect, and maintain hospital areas and equipment Stock treatment and surgical areas Maintain accurate and detailed medical records
