Job Summary Join our dynamic veterinary team as a dedicated and skilled Veterinary Assistant (VA). This vital role supports our veterinarians and technicians in delivering exceptional animal care while ensuring smooth clinic operations. This critical role supports both our IVVH Primary Care and ER facilities, requiring a minimum of one year of experience in General Practice and Emergency Critical Care veterinary medicine . A flexible schedule with weekend availability is required to meet the staffing needs of both locations. The ideal candidate will possess a strong passion for animal welfare, excellent handling skills, and the ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment. This position involves a variety of duties, from animal handling and cleaning to client communication and organizational tasks. Key Responsibilities:
Assist veterinarians and veterinary technicians with clinical procedures, including animal restraint, medication administration, and sample collection. Provide compassionate animal handling and restraint to ensure safety for both animals and staff during examinations and treatments. Support hospitalized patients by cleaning, feeding, and monitoring animals to promote optimal recovery. Maintain accurate records of treatments, medications, and laboratory results in accordance with clinic protocols. Prepare animals for surgery or diagnostic procedures by ensuring proper positioning and aseptic technique. Assist with laboratory tasks such as sample processing, running tests, and maintaining equipment to support diagnostic efforts. Manage front desk responsibilities including client communication, appointment scheduling, and billing to ensure excellent client service. Uphold the highest standards of pet care, and clinic cleanliness in compliance with safety regulations.
Qualifications and Skills:
  • Proven minimum of 1 year experience in a GP and ER veterinary hospital setting is required.
  • Experience working with diverse species such as exotics animals is preferred but not required.
  • Strong commitment to safety and protocol adherence.
  • Calm, patient, and confident demeanor when handling animals.
  • Ability to stand for long periods and lift to 40 lbs.
  • Ability to work flexible schedules, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Must be reliable, punctual, and possess a strong work ethic.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team-based, fast-paced 24/7 environment.
  • Excellent time management, organizational, communication and interpersonal skills
  • A strong commitment to excellence in patient care and customer service.
