Job Description

Bishop Ranch Veterinary Center & Urgent Care is seeking an experienced Veterinary Assistant or RVT to join our collaborative, fast-paced hospital team. We are looking for a skilled veterinary professional who is confident in technical patient care, thrives in a busy clinical environment, and is passionate about delivering high-quality medicine and compassionate care to both patients and clients. This role is ideal for candidates who enjoy hands-on nursing care, urgent care workflow, anesthesia support, and working closely with doctors and technicians in a team-oriented setting. What We're Looking For Candidates should have experience or proficiency in: Venipuncture and blood collection IV catheter placement IV fluid therapy setup and monitoring Cystocentesis Patient restraint and low-stress handling Monitoring hospitalized patients Recognizing changes in patient condition In-house laboratory diagnostics Medication administration Client communication and education Fast-paced treatment and urgent care workflow Experience in emergency, urgent care, specialty, or high-volume general practice is strongly preferred. Clinical Responsibilities Place IV catheters and administer IV fluid therapy, including maintenance and bolus rates. Administer oral, injectable, sedative, and anesthetic medications appropriate to training level and supervision. Monitor hospitalized and critical patients and promptly communicate changes in condition. Provide high-quality nursing care and patient treatments. Measure and accurately record TPR and other vital parameters. Perform venipuncture, sample collection, cystocentesis, and laboratory preparation. Perform in-house laboratory diagnostics including urinalysis, cytology preparation, fecal testing, CBC/chemistry analysis, and sample processing. Apply bandages and provide basic wound care. Support anesthesia and procedural workflow, including patient preparation, induction support, and recovery monitoring. Troubleshoot IV pumps and manage fluid systems appropriately. Assist doctors with outpatient appointments, diagnostics, imaging, treatments, and procedures. Support urgent care workflow by obtaining patient histories, collecting vitals, assisting with triage, and maintaining efficient patient flow. Recognize contagious diseases and implement appropriate isolation and safety precautions. Prepare discharge instructions and review medications and home care instructions with clients. Discuss estimates with clients. Provide patient status updates as directed by doctors. Maintain accurate medical records, treatment documentation, and charge entry. Hospital Support Responsibilities Maintain clean, organized, and appropriately stocked treatment areas. Assist with room setup, equipment preparation, laundry, and hospital organization. Support team workflow through proactive communication and collaboration. Set up ultrasound, surgical, and dental equipment as needed. Qualifications Minimum 2 years of veterinary clinical experience required. RVT license preferred but not required for experienced candidates with strong technical skills. Strong communication and teamwork skills. Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail. Ability to safely restrain animals and lift patients with assistance as needed. Additional Requirements The nature of the Veterinary Assistant role requires the following to complete work tasks: On-site presence. An ability to see, hear, and rapidly process what is occurring in the fast-paced work setting. Close vision is essential for completion of job duties. Ability to use hands and fingers to handle and feel. Ability to stand and walk for extended periods of time, to reach with arms and hands, to climb, and to balance, stoop, crouch, kneel, crawl, and bend repeatedly. Ability to lift pets (25 lbs) and to team lift pets (55 lbs), to lift/stock heavy supplies, and to clean animal cages and restrain animals properly (to minimize risk of bites and scratches). Must wear protective clothing at times and take precautions when treating animals with germicides or insecticides. Strong communication skills in spoken English. The schedule for this role is Tuesday•Friday 12:30-9pm and Saturday 8:30am-5pm. The training schedule for the initial 30-60 days will be Monday-Friday with 8-hour shifts ranging in shift times between 8am and 8pm. Does this align with your availability?
