Job Description
Job Overview St. Johns Veterinary Hospital is hiring! Join our dynamic veterinary team as a Veterinary Assistant and Technician, where your passion for animal care and veterinary medicine will make a meaningful difference in the lives of pets and their owners. This paid position offers an exciting opportunity to develop your skills in animal handling, clinical procedures, and veterinary support within a fast-paced, compassionate environment. You will work closely with veterinarians and pet owners to ensure the highest standards of animal health and well-being are maintained through diligent care, technical expertise, and teamwork. Duties Assist veterinarians with clinical procedures including animal restraint, catheterization, and sample collection using aseptic techniques. Perform laboratory tasks such as sample processing, diagnostic testing, and maintaining accurate records. Support dental procedures by understanding dental terminology, assisting with pet grooming, and maintaining dental equipment. Handle a variety of animals including dogs, cats, and exotics with confidence using proper animal husbandry and handling techniques. Operate diagnostic equipment such as X-ray machines while ensuring safety protocols are followed for both animals and staff. Maintain cleanliness and organization of treatment areas, kennels, and surgical suites to uphold infection control standards. Contribute to pet care routines including feeding, answering phones, administering medications, and monitoring animal physiology during recovery. Requirements Prior kennel experience or animal handling background is highly preferred. Knowledge of veterinary terminology, animal anatomy, and physiology is essential for effective communication and procedure execution. Experience with veterinary critical care situations and laboratory work enhances your ability to support urgent patient needs. Familiarity with dog training techniques, pet grooming practices, and equine handling is advantageous. Strong understanding of aseptic technique, pet care routines, and safe animal restraint methods is required. Ability to operate X-ray equipment safely while adhering to radiation safety standards. Excellent communication skills combined with a genuine passion for animal welfare are vital for success in this role.
