Full Job Description Description:
Live Oak Veterinary Specialists is seeking a compassionate, motivated, and team-oriented Veterinary Assistant to join our growing specialty veterinary practice. This position plays a critical role in supporting veterinarians and veterinary technicians while helping provide exceptional patient care and client service. Veterinary Assistants at Live Oak will have the opportunity to work alongside board-certified specialists while gaining experience in advanced veterinary medicine, surgery, anesthesia, imaging, and hospitalized patient care.
Requirements:
Patient Care Safely restrain dogs and cats for examinations and procedures Assist veterinarians and technicians with patient treatments and diagnostics Prepare patients for examinations, procedures, surgery, and imaging Monitor hospitalized patients and report changes to medical staff Assist with patient recovery and comfort care Walk, feed, and provide basic husbandry care for hospitalized patients Clinical Support Clean, disinfect, and maintain treatment and exam areas Prepare and maintain surgical and treatment supplies Assist with laboratory sample collection and processing Support radiology, MRI, CT, and anesthesia procedures as directed Stock medical supplies and maintain inventory organization Maintain accurate medical record documentation Client Service Provide compassionate and professional communication with clients Assist with patient intake and discharge processes Educate clients on basic care instructions as directed by medical staff Team Responsibilities Maintain a positive and collaborative work environment Follow OSHA, safety, and infection control procedures Support all departments as needed in a fast-paced specialty setting Participate in ongoing training and professional development Required Qualifications High school diploma or GED Ability to safely handle and restrain animals of varying sizes and temperaments Strong communication and interpersonal skills Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment Basic computer and documentation skills Ability to work both independently and within a team Ability to stand, bend, lift, and move throughout the workday Ability to lift up to 50 pounds safely Preferred Qualifications Previous veterinary, animal care, kennel, or medical experience preferred Specialty or emergency veterinary experience preferred Veterinary Assistant certification preferred but not required Fear Free Certification is a plus Experience with anesthesia monitoring, surgery assistance, or laboratory procedures is a plus Physical Requirements Standing and walking for extended periods Frequent bending, kneeling, and lifting Exposure to animals, cleaning chemicals, bodily fluids, and infectious diseases Ability to safely handle stressed or fractious animals
