Responsibilities Assist veterinarians with clinical procedures including animal restraint, catheterization, and aseptic techniques to ensure safe and effective treatments. Prepare animals for examinations and surgeries by performing animal handling, restraint, and ensuring proper positioning. Conduct laboratory tests and assist with diagnostic imaging such as X-ray procedures to support accurate diagnoses. Maintain detailed records of animal physiology, anatomy, and treatment plans while adhering to veterinary terminology standards. Support pet owners with education on treatment plans and care as well as post-operative instructions, to enhance overall animal well-being. Ensure a clean and safe environment by practicing proper animal care techniques and maintaining aseptic conditions during procedures. Skills Extensive kennel experience combined with strong animal handling skills. Knowledge of veterinary terminology, animal physiology, and anatomy to support clinical tasks effectively. Experience with dental terminology and procedures to assist in dental cleanings and examinations. Familiarity with laboratory techniques and diagnostic imaging such as X-ray to aid in diagnostics. Proficiency in animal handling and pet care to promote comfort and trust with animals. Ability to perform animal catheterization, restraint, and other technical procedures with precision. LICENSED VETERINARY TECHNICIAN
(LVT) -You are authorized to perform duties within the full scope of practice for a Licensed Veterinary Technician as defined by the Iowa Board of Veterinary Medicine and other applicable laws, under the direction of a licensed veterinarian. This includes, but is not limited to: inducing and monitoring anesthesia, placing IV catheters, administering controlled substances and IV medications, performing dental prophylaxis, taking and processing diagnostic radiographs, and performing assigned laboratory procedures. You must maintain your active license in good standing as a condition of employment. In addition to the above, you are qualified and may be assigned duties listed below.
VETERINARY TECHNICIAN
(Non-Licensed)- You are authorized to perform technical animal healthcare duties under the direct, immediate supervision of a licensed veterinarian who is physically present on the premises and actively overseeing the activity. Authorized tasks, contingent upon individual training and competency as assessed by clinic management, may include: administering oral, subcutaneous, and intramuscular medications; performing venipuncture; preparing and processing in-house laboratory samples; assisting in surgical and anesthetic procedures; taking radiographs; and providing client education on prescribed treatments. If qualified based on training, you may be assigned duties listed below as needed.
VETERINARY
ASSISTANT- You are a non-credentialed clinical support professional. You must work under the direct supervision of a licensed veterinarian (DVM) or a Licensed Veterinary Technician (LVT).
-Your primary duties include:
providing safe and humane animal restraint; obtaining patient histories and TPRs; performing basic grooming and maintenance (nail trims, ear cleaning, bathing); ensuring cleanliness and stocking of treatment, surgical, and kennel areas; preparing supplies and equipment; assisting with laboratory duties; and providing support to kennel and front desk operations as directed.
STANDARDS & EXPECTATIONS FOR ALL POSITIONS
As a condition of your employment, you are expected to consistently adhere to the following:
Compliance:
Perform all duties in strict compliance with clinic protocols, safety standards, and all applicable laws and regulations.
Accuracy & Confidentiality:
Maintain complete, accurate, and timely patient records in Avimark. Protect the confidentiality of all client, patient, and clinic information.
Inventory Management:
Proactively manage clinic inventory by monitoring stock levels of prescription medications, controlled substances, and medical supplies. You are responsible for providing written notification (via the designated clinic system) when supplies are running low or need to be reordered.
Professional Conduct:
Provide compassionate, professional, and ethical service to clients and patients at all times.
Team Collaboration:
Communicate effectively with the veterinary team and attend required staff meetings and training sessions.
Physical Capability:
Fulfill the essential physical functions of the role, including the ability to lift 40+ lbs, stand for extended periods, and work in a fast-paced clinical environment involving animals of varying sizes and temperaments.
Pay:
$19.00 - $29.00 per hour
