- Part-time We are looking for an enthusiastic and reliable individual to perform veterinary assistant duties at our small but rapidly growing small animal practice.
Our ideal candidate will be able to assist our veterinarian and certified veterinary technician with patient care, animal restraint, patient check in, administration of medications and treatments as well as caring for hospitalized patients. Other duties include helping to keep the clinic stocked, clean and organized. To be successful in this role you should possess a positive attitude, have compassion and empathy towards animals as well as their guardians and be able to work independently as well as part of a team. This job is physically demanding and requires moderate to high endurance and strength (lifting/restraining heavy patients, walking strong dogs). Multitasking, paying attention to detail and working efficiently are essential skills for this position. Flexibility with schedule is a plus. Hours would start out between 16-20 weekly with a potential increase in the future.
Duties:
- Safely restrain pets for medical exams and treatments (we practice Fear Free methods)
- Assisting medical staff with basic procedures such as blood draws, radiographs, nail trims and supportive care
- Caring for hospitalized patients including walking dogs, feeding and watering, taking vitals and keeping patients clean and comfortable
- Keeping the clinic clean and organized
- Collecting patient samples
- Assisting in laboratory procedures
- Stocking supplies
Skills:
- Professional attitude and appearance
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to be resourceful and proactive when issues arise
- Excellent rapport with animals, must be comfortable and confident around all breeds of dogs and cats
- Previous animal handling experience in a professional setting
- Animal medical experience (administering vaccines, blood draws) a plus
- Excellent organizational skills
- Multitasking and time-management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks
- Strong Customer service skills
- High school degree required and Fear Free Certification a plus
- Solid computer skills

Schedule:
- Tuesday and Thursday shifts to start.
16-20 hours per week. (Office is open Monday through Friday with partial day shift (4 hours) every other Saturday).
