Duties & Responsibilities:

The Veterinary Assistant is responsible for assisting the Animal Care Manager here at the shelter. Help administer vaccinations and draw blood from animals for medical tests. Have knowledge and experience with common medical conditions, treatment of conditions, such as but not limited to: respiratory infections, heart worm, ringworm, demodex, sarcoptic mange, and skin infections. Knowledge of how and when to quarantine animals for contagious diseases. Schedule, follow-up and drive animals for appointments at several local vet clinics. Interpret blood work and urinalysis, with deciding treatment plans. Process all medical paperwork and enter into the database system in a timely manner. Consistently manage animal inventory at shelter. Arrange medical care and treatments, and scheduling needed procedures of each of these animals. Know how to hold and restrain animals for exams and treatments.

Qualifications for this position:

Must have previous animal care experience. Embrace our no-kill philosophy and be driven by our life-saving efforts. Be a self-starter with a lot of initiative, problem solving skills & the ability to work with minimal supervision. Ability to provide excellent customer service in multiple different situations. Experience using shelter related software like PetPoint is a plus. Be an excellent communicator—both written and verbal. Be able to excel in a high paced work environment where you are surrounded by the distractions of animal sounds, smells and their respective allergens. Must have a valid drivers license.
