Veterinary Assistant and Technician

Duties Assist veterinarians with animal examinations, treatments, and procedures, ensuring proper animal restraint and handling at all times Prepare animals for surgery or diagnostic procedures by performing animal husbandry, cleaning, and sterilization using aseptic techniques Conduct laboratory tests such as blood work, urinalysis, and other diagnostic procedures to support accurate diagnoses Take and develop X-ray images, ensuring proper positioning and safety protocols are followed Provide pet care services including grooming, feeding, pet grooming, and administering medications under supervision Support dental procedures by understanding dental terminology and assisting with cleaning, polishing, and animal anesthesia preparation Maintain detailed records of animal treatments, laboratory results, radiographs, and patient histories in compliance with veterinary standards Requirements Prior kennel experience or animal care background with a strong understanding of animal physiology and anatomy Knowledge of veterinary terminology, critical care practices, and laboratory procedures Experience with dog handling, pet grooming, and pet training techniques to ensure safe restraint and effective communication with animals Familiarity with equine experience or large animal handling is a plus but not mandatory Ability to perform animal catheterization, restraint techniques, and maintain aseptic environments during procedures Strong communication skills to collaborate effectively with veterinary staff and educate pet owners on pet care practices Certification or experience as a veterinary technician is preferred but not required; willingness to learn on the job is essential This role is ideal for motivated individuals eager to expand their expertise in veterinary medicine while providing compassionate care.
