Job Description

Veterinary Assistant Merrimac Valley Animal Hospital -
Amesbury, MA Pay Range:
$18-$24/hr depending on experience If you're an experienced Veterinary Assistant who likes being hands-on, staying busy, and working with a team that genuinely has each other's backs — you'll probably feel right at home here. At Merrimac Valley Animal Hospital (MVAH), we've been caring for Amesbury's pets since 1968. Over the years, we've built something we're really proud of: a steady, collaborative team, strong client relationships, and a hospital that runs on equal parts skill, trust, and "jump in and help where needed" energy. We're looking for someone who enjoys the flow of a busy clinic, takes pride in the details, and knows that great patient care is always a team effort. Why you'll love working here Pay range: $18-$24/hr depending on experience Established, well-equipped hospital with digital imaging, in-house labs, and dedicated treatment areas A tenured team that values collaboration, consistency, and showing up for each other A "low-stress handling" approach that benefits both patients and the people caring for them A schedule that supports work-life balance (yes, really) What you'll be doing Assisting veterinarians and technicians during exams, treatments, and procedures Safely restraining pets and helping keep visits as smooth and low-stress as possible Preparing rooms, setting up for procedures, and maintaining a clean, organized treatment area Supporting patient care: feeding, walking, cleaning, and monitoring hospitalized pets Handling lab samples and assisting with basic diagnostics Helping with client communication — answering questions, reinforcing care instructions, and being a friendly, reassuring presence Jumping in where needed — because no two days here look exactly the same What we're looking for Previous experience as a Veterinary Assistant (or similar hands-on role) Comfort working in a fast-paced clinical environment Strong teamwork mindset — you notice what needs to be done and do it Solid communication skills with both coworkers and clients Ability to stay organized and flexible as priorities shift Physical stamina (you'll be on your feet, and yes — sometimes lifting or restraining larger pets) A positive, steady attitude, even on the busy days Perks & Benefits 401(k) Medical, Dental, Vision insurance options PTO Company-sponsored EAP Referral bonus program Employee pet care discount Who we are Merrimac Valley Animal Hospital is part of United Veterinary Care, which means we have access to additional resources and support while still keeping the close-knit, community-focused feel that makes this place special. If you're someone who enjoys being part of a team, takes pride in doing good work, and wants to grow in a hospital that values consistency and care — we'd love to meet you.
