About Us Anne Arundel Veterinary Hospital is a well-established small animal practice proudly serving our community for over 30 years. We are known for building long-term client relationships, practicing quality medicine, and maintaining a supportive, team-focused culture. We are seeking a dependable Part-Time Urgent Care Veterinary Assistant who is motivated to learn, comfortable working with animals, and able to contribute to a fast-paced, team-focused hospital environment. Position Overview The Urgent Care Veterinary Assistant supports veterinarians and technicians in delivering timely, high-quality care for sick, injured, and urgent care patients. This position requires attention to detail, a calm attitude, and the ability to stay organized during busy or unpredictable situations. Training will be provided. Candidates must be available to work evening urgent care shifts and weekends. Urgent care shifts are typically scheduled from 6:00 PM to 10:00 PM . ResponsibilitiesPatient Care & Clinical Support Safely restrain dogs and cats during examinations, treatments, and procedures Obtain and record TPR, including temperature, pulse, and respiration Assist with urgent care exam room flow and treatment plans Prepare patients for procedures and monitor recovery Administer medications as directed by the veterinarian or technician Assist with hospitalized or urgent care patients as needed Maintain patient comfort, cleanliness, and safety throughout the visit Laboratory, Diagnostic & Computer Support Collect and process blood, urine, and fecal samples Operate in-house diagnostic equipment Enter and update patient information in the practice management software Use Shepherd veterinary software for medical records, invoicing, and patient workflow as trained Assist with radiographs and other diagnostics as directed Maintain clean and organized treatment and exam areas Ensure accurate and thorough medical records Procedural & Surgical Assistance Prepare instruments, supplies, and treatment areas Assist with minor procedures and urgent care treatments Maintain clean technique and follow hospital protocols Assist with anesthesia monitoring as permitted by state regulations and hospital policy Client Communication Provide clear discharge instructions as directed Support medication education and follow-up care instructions Communicate with clients in a compassionate, professional, and calm manner Help ensure clients feel supported during urgent or stressful visits Qualifications Training will be provided Strong interest in veterinary medicine and patient care Comfortable handling dogs and cats Basic computer skills required Ability to learn and work with Shepherd veterinary software Willingness to learn veterinary terminology, patient care protocols, and hospital workflows Prior experience with veterinary practice management software is helpful but not required Familiarity with IDEXX in-house laboratory machines is helpful but not required Ability to multitask and function effectively within a team Ability to stay calm and organized in a fast-paced urgent care environment Must be available to work weekends Must be available for evening urgent care shifts, typically 6:00 PM-10:00 PM Schedule Part-time position Urgent care shifts are typically 6:00 PM-10:00 PM Evening availability required Weekend availability required Compensation & Benefits For part-time team members: Competitive hourly compensation based on experience Training and mentorship provided Stable work environment Hands-on urgent care experience in a supportive clinical setting Opportunity for long-term growth within the practice
