Job Description

Hiring Department Veterinary Medicine & Surgery Job Description The College of Veterinary Medicine at MU is on a mission to educate and train outstanding clinicians and scientists, generate new knowledge, engage stakeholders, and foster economic growth, all of which promote and protect the health and welfare of animals and people. Simply put, our mission is to Teach, Heal, Discover and Serve. We are seeking candidates for a Veterinary Assistant position working with our Neurology & Neurosurgery service . The position will serve to assist clinical faculty in patient care, client communication and clinical teaching in the Neurology section of the Veterinary Health Center. Typical duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to: Monitoring the receiving schedule and assuring cases are appropriate for the section and appropriate resources (students) are assigned. Making appointments for key cases and monitoring the services appointment schedule. Assisting with examination and diagnostic procedures. Assisting and instructing students on exam techniques, drawing blood samples, etc. and monitoring patient care. Contacting clients or referring veterinarians with health and financial updates, as well as requests for additional information. Assisting faculty with research animals that may be receiving services in the VHC. Gathering, indexing and processing information into section data base. Entering and/or monitoring entries of data into the hospital information system. Other duties as assigned. Veterinarians throughout the Midwest refer animal clients to the Veterinary Health Center for specialized diagnoses and treatment. With sophisticated therapeutic equipment that includes an underwater treadmill, advanced imaging techniques, and groundbreaking equine lameness diagnostic equipment, we are a center for animal healthcare. Shift Full-time (40 hours per week) with typical hours being Monday through Friday, between 8a and 5p. Minimum Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary. Preferred Qualifications Prior experience in a veterinary medical setting is highly desirable. Successful candidates will exhibit the following skills and competencies: . Enjoy working in a fast-paced collaborative environment Driven by life-long learning and professional development Possess excellent communication skills and be able to interact with pet families and the veterinary team Be detailed-oriented and well-organized in gathering medical histories, carrying out instructions, documenting patient statistics, and updating computerized medical records for billing Enjoy working with animals and have the ability to comfort, handle and restrain dogs and cats
Anticipated Hiring Range Salary:
$16.00 per hour
