Job Description

Veterinary Assistant — Queen City Animal Hospital | Charlotte, NC Queen City Animal Hospital is an AAHA Accredited, Gold Level Cat Friendly, Fear-Free Certified practice seeking a Veterinary Assistant who brings energy, ownership, and initiative to every single shift. We have a team that works hard, takes pride in what they do, and genuinely loves this field. We're looking for someone who fits that culture — not just on paper, but in practice. Who We're Looking For This role is not for someone who needs to be told what to do next. We want someone who is always moving, always looking for what needs to happen, and who takes pride in their workplace. You should be equally comfortable speaking with clients and performing services (blood draws, exams, etc) in the exam rooms, helping in the treatment area, unpacking inventory, turning over laundry, and generally jumping in wherever your teammates and doctors need you — without being asked twice. Client communication is a significant and non-negotiable part of this role. You will regularly be the primary touchpoint for clients during visits, when discussing treatment plans, medications, and follow-up care. You must be confident, clear, and professional in those conversations. Don't have all the answers? No worries - but you need to be comfortable saying "I don't know the answer to that, but I will find the answer for you." If talking with clients isn't something you truly enjoy, this probably isn't your place. We also value people who own their mistakes. We're a growth-oriented team, and that means we expect honesty, accountability, and a willingness to learn — not perfection. We offer a generous CE budget and expect you to use it to continue your growth in this field. We are privately owned and operated, and we take a lot of pride in that. It means hospital leadership can make decisions that put our patients and team first, without the bureaucracy of a corporate system. If that kind of environment appeals to you, you'll fit right in here.
What You'll Do:
Gentle patient restraint using Fear-Free handling techniques (not Fear Free Certified already? We will get that process started for you). Obtaining histories and providing client education in exam rooms while following our hospital SOPs Draw blood, administer vaccines and filling prescriptions Obtaining TPRs and assisting with x-rays, ultrasounds, and other diagnostics Client communication regarding treatment plans and medications Supporting veterinarians, technicians, and fellow assistants as needed Keeping working areas clean, organized, and running smoothly Answering phones as needed - some days they ring off the hook, and our CSR team needs backup.
Schedule:
We are open Monday through Friday, 8a-6p. This role will either be four, 10 hour days; or five, 8 hour days - to be discussed during the hiring process. About QCAH We opened in June 2019 and hit the ground running — and we haven't slowed down. We're located in the heart of 28205 and serve dogs, cats, and exotic patients with a focus on preventative care alongside sick and urgent care visits.
Our hospital is fully equipped:
Idexx laboratory, digital radiography, digital dental radiography, endoscopy, cold laser therapy, and ultrasound. Our entire team is Fear-Free Certified, and we expect new hires to become certified shortly after joining. We do not scruff cats — ever. If that's the only restraint method you know, we're happy to teach you better ones. Why QCAH Privately owned — decisions made for the right reasons AAHA Accredited, holding ourselves to a higher standard across the board Fear-Free Certified Practice — it's not a buzzword here, it's how we operate Competitive wages with a full benefits package: health, dental, vision, life, long-term disability, 401k with matching, PTO, CE budget, and employee pet discounts A team that believes in providing quality care to pets and great service to clients Belief in work/life balance and community involvement To Apply If you're someone who brings consistent effort, takes pride in their work, and is looking to put down roots with a team that will invest in you — we'd love to hear from you.
