Job Description

Veterinary Assistant•Full Time |
Carolina Animal Hospital of Creedmoor Location:
Creedmoor, NC (15 minutes north of Raleigh / northeast of Durham)
Schedule:
Monday-Friday, 7:30 AM•5:30 PM•Four Day Set Workweek | No weekends. No evenings. No boarding.
Compensation:
Starting $18.00•20.00/hr based on verified experience and demonstrated skill
Benefits:
BCBS NC Health, Vision & Dental Insurance | Paid Time Off | Discounted Veterinary Care This Is Not a Entry-Level Posting Carolina Animal Hospital of Creedmoor is a privately owned, two-doctor small animal general practice in Creedmoor, NC — independent, non-corporate, and non-private equity. We practice modern medicine and surgery in a small-town atmosphere, and we collaborate regularly with NCSU Veterinary School, BluePearl/VSH, and Triangle Veterinary Referral Hospital on complex cases. We are looking for one or two experienced Veterinary Assistants who are genuinely good at this work — and who know it. The compensation range above reflects real, demonstrated experience. Our established Veterinary Assistants earn above this range. If you have 3+ years of solid, verifiable clinical experience and are considered a top performer where you currently work, this posting was written for you. If you are early in your career or still building your clinical foundation, this is not the right fit at this time — and that is okay. What This Role Actually Requires Our Veterinary Assistants are cross-trained across the full practice. There are no "just front desk" or "just clinical" roles here. On any given day you may be on the phone scheduling appointments, checking in a patient, assisting in surgery, processing lab samples, or walking a client through discharge instructions. We expect all of it to be done well. From Day One, you should be able to do the following independently: Restrain patients safely and confidently for examination, venipuncture, and procedures — dogs and cats of varying size and temperament Place IV catheters independently in canine and feline patients Calculate and administer medications and fluids accurately under veterinary direction Take and position diagnostic-quality dental and full-body radiographs Collect and process in-house laboratory samples (CBC, chemistry, urinalysis, cytology prep, fecal) Assist with and instrument basic surgical and dental procedures Operate and maintain standard veterinary equipment (dental unit, anesthesia machine, autoclave, lab analyzers) Recognize and clearly communicate early signs of patient distress or patient status changes to the veterinarian Communicate confidently and professionally with clients — history-taking, check-in, discharge instructions, treatment and product recommendations — without prompting Document patient records accurately in an EMR system (Avimark experience is a plus, not a requirement) If you read that list and felt confident — good. If you felt hesitant about several items, please consider whether this is the right opportunity for you right now. What We Offer in Return We are aware that the veterinary field has a retention problem. We take that seriously. Stable, predictable schedule: 4 full days per week with one weekday off (rotating during colleague vacations). Our staff are out the door before 5:45 PM. This is not aspirational — ask our staff. No weekends, no evenings, no boarding, no on-call.
Competitive pay that grows:
Starting range reflects your verified experience. We expect strong new hires to move above the posted range within 1-2 years, consistent with our current staff.
Full benefits:
BCBS NC health, vision, and dental insurance. Paid Time Off. Discounted veterinary care for your own pets.
A professional work environment:
We enforce a strict No Drama policy — for staff and for clients. We terminate client relationships when necessary. You will be treated as a professional, and we expect the same in return.
Independent practice:
No corporate protocols. No private equity metrics. Two doctors who are present, collaborative, and invested in doing the medicine right. Our Culture — Plainly Stated We are a small, efficient, highly professional team. We do not have room for staff who bring personal conflict into the workplace, who do the minimum and wait to be asked for more, or who struggle to communicate with clients. We do have room for someone who takes pride in their work, contributes without being directed to, and wants to spend their working hours doing excellent veterinary medicine — and their personal time actually enjoying it. If that sounds like the place you've been looking for, we'd like to hear from you. How to Apply Submit your resume through Indeed. In your cover letter or application message, please answer the following: "Describe your current or most recent Veterinary Assistant role: what procedures do you perform independently, and what do you consider your strongest contribution to your team beyond your assigned clinical duties?" Applications that do not include a response to this question will not be reviewed.
