1327 About the Job Mount Laurel Animal Hospital is seeking a skilled, motivated, and patient-focused Veterinary Assistant to join our Primary Care team. This is an exciting opportunity for individuals looking to get started or looking to grow in the veterinary field, offering hands-on experience. At Mount Laurel Animal Hospital, our assistants play an essential role in delivering exceptional patient care. Position Overview:
This role includes, but is not limited to, obtaining medical histories, maintaining the flow of appointments throughout the day, taking radiographs, performing venipuncture, client education, and more. Our assistants must be able to work with cats, dogs, and occasionally exotic species. A Quick Look at a Day in the
Life:
A day at Mount Laurel Animal Hospital starts before you even walk through the doors. As you drive onto our beautiful working farm campus, you are greeted by some of the animals that make our hospital such a unique place to work including longhorns, emus, goats, pigs, and geese are all part of the experience. It is not your average trip into work, and that is just the beginning. Forgot your coffee or breakfast on the way in? No problem. Our team enjoys access to a fully stocked breakfast bar along with free snacks available on site for staff, helping you start the day fueled and ready. Once your shift begins, you will step into a fast-paced, team-centered hospital environment where your skills truly matter. A typical day may include welcoming clients and patients, assisting in outpatient appointments in a clinical setting or in clients' homes with our mobile service. We also see patients for walk-ins with our urgent care service and perform soft tissue surgery along with dentistry in our surgical service. Throughout the day, you will help bring calm, clarity, and compassion to clients who may be stressed, worried, or navigating complex medical information.
Key Responsibilities:
Assist doctors in exam rooms or in client homes Prepare vaccines and fill preventatives Restrain for venipuncture, exams, and treatments Express anal glands and perform nail trim Assist with diagnostic imaging (clinical setting) Stock and clean workspaces Obtain patient history and enter into the electronic medical record Maintain clear and accurate medical documentation Assist with inducing anesthesia and preparation of surgical sites Prepare and maintain surgical suites and equipment Educate pet owners on treatments, medications, and wellness recommendations Practice fear-free initiatives Prepare and monitor patients for emergency surgeries or procedures. Manage central line and PICC line placement and care. Administer transfusion therapy including blood typing and cross-matching. Provide nursing care for exotic species. Accurately document medical records and invoicing.
Skills & Qualifications:
Some experience in veterinary medicine as a veterinary assistant preferred Experience with venipuncture (preferred) Ability to multitask and prioritize in a fast-paced environment Strong teamwork and collaboration across departments Excellent time management, verbal and written communication skills Compassionate, detail-oriented, and committed to professional growth If working in our mobile service, being able to operate a motor vehicle is a requirement, and provide proof of a valid driver's license. Physical & Work Environment Requirements Veterinary technician experience required; anesthesia experience strongly preferred Credentialed Veterinary Technician preferred, though strong experienced candidates may be considered Strong knowledge of anesthetic monitoring, patient recovery, drug calculations, and perioperative nursing care Excellent attention to detail, critical thinking ability, and comfort working in a fast-paced clinical environment Strong communication, teamwork, and time management skills Expectations of Conduct All of our staff is expected to demonstrate professionalism, dependability, and accountability in all aspects of the role.
