Exam Room Assistant Reports to: Lead exam room Assistant, Hospital Administrator /Office Manager and Owner Overall Responsibility:
The exam room assistant supports the veterinarians and licensed veterinary technicians with obtaining medical background, exams, treatment, and care for hospitalized patients. Duties also include client communication and patient follow-up to provide the best care and experience for both the owner and patient. Due to the nature of the hospital, the Exam Room Assistant may be asked to work any day of the week, month, or year.Key Areas of Responsibility:
Provide outstanding customer service Assist doctors in exam rooms as directed to support doctor's needs in care of patient Able to lift pets up to 50lbs 10 times every day Able to bend, lift, kneel and for extended periods of time Work with fecal matter, urine, blood, and cleaning chemicals Communicate and educate client on preventative care and purposes of medications Properly restrain animals for procedures Provide daily care of hospitalized patients as instructed by doctor Properly prep and discharge patients from the hospital. Ensure client is well-informed regarding at home care Be proficient in the protocol for laboratory, inventory and housekeeping for the exam rooms and treatment area Properly record medical information, client communication and invoice using the hospital software Ensure the cleanliness of the treatment area and exam rooms according to hospital standards Refill medications correctly, promptly, and with correct double checks and sign offs. Deal with all client financial matters, such as estimates, insurance paperwork, deposits, and payment agreements. Update and maintain the integrity of the in-house electronic census. Work as part of a team to put our clients and patients first. Learn the key areas of responsibility for the cashier / communication center / greeter / kennel to ensure proper support and help for each department Ensure the safety of clients, pets and their colleagues Obey all clinic policies and procedures as well as under their responsibilities under OSHA and other regulatory agencies.
