Job Description

Veterinary Assistants must possess a positive attitude, show compassion to all clients, have excellent communication skills, and be able to work in a team based environment. A Veterinary assistant is usually the second person that the client meets when entering the practice. Therefore, the assistant must maintain a cheerful and warm disposition, and a professional appearance and attitude. An assistant must be efficient and effective, able to multitask, and be a liaison between the client and the veterinarian. Our business thrives on client satisfaction. It is our responsibility to anticipate client needs and satisfy them to the best of our ability. As a Veterinary assistant, you will be responsible for the below listed tasks as well as other tasks that may be assigned. Arriving at scheduled time is expected. As a float you will be expected to help the front office when needed. Duties and Responsibilities Assist the Veterinarian with routine and surgical appointments. Collect and preserve lab samples to be either tested in-house or sent out for comprehensive testing. Perform radiographs as directed by the Veterinarian. Ensure that all surgical equipment is properly sterilized and stored. Prepare surgical packs as directed by the Veterinarian. Maintain blood machines as directed by the manufacturer. Prepare animals for surgery. Administer medications, injections, and treatments under supervision of a Veterinarian. Provide First Aid and general nursing care to patients under the direction of the Veterinarian. Administering anesthesia, monitoring patients under anesthesia, and assisting Veterinarians during surgical procedures. Recording and maintaining anesthesia logs as well as controlled substance logs. Restrain animals during examination or treatment. Educate clients on surgical aftercare or any other instructions from the veterinarian. Observe and report patient behavior to the Veterinarian on duty and record in the medical record. Filling medications prescribed by the Veterinarian. Knowledge of medications and what they are used for. Collect and record accurate medical histories for each patient and record them in the patient's medical record. Maintain a sterile surgical suite. Monitor patients as they are waking from surgery. Perform dental procedures. Safely and effectively restrain aggressive animals without allowing the patient or other staff members to become injured. Admit patients for hospitalization/surgery. Answering the phone make appointments create estimates and invoices greeting clients as they arrive

$18.00 - $21.00 per hour
