Job Description
Veterinary Assistant Angel of Hope is adding a Veterinary assistant to our growing team! Our Veterinary Technicians play a vital role as the first point of contact for all pets joining our program. They are responsible for intake exams, administering vaccines and preventatives, medications, coordinating care with our veterinarian, and ensuring each animal is ready for adoption in a timely manner.
Key Responsibilities:
Perform intake exams, including administering basic vaccines, parasite treatments, and conducting FeLV/FIV/HW testing. Evaluate health concerns and communicate findings to the Veterinarian. Conduct blood draws for HW/FeLV/FIV testing and other lab work, including in-house fecal testing. Ensure all pets are up to date on vaccines, dewormers, heartworm preventatives, and flea/tick medications, with accurate documentation. Prepare accurate and timely adoption paperwork. Assist with animal intake, including evaluating capacity for care, contacting owner surrenders for information, coordinating with impounds, and working with out-of-state rescue partners. Communicate effectively with adopters post-adoption to address questions or concerns in a timely manner. Assist with surgery days, including managing drop-off and pick-up of foster pets, preparing surgical packs, monitoring pets post-surgery, and administering medications. Order supplies, track inventory, and maintain an organized and well-stocked veterinary suite. Serve as a member of the Veterinary Team, supporting Angel of Hope's mission and fostering a collaborative environment.Required Skills:
Strong written and verbal communication skills. Ability to work effectively both as part of a team and independently. Knowledge of vaccine schedules, common medications, and illnesses in cats and dogs. Ability to interpret and follow protocols set by the Staff Veterinarian. Proficiency with Excel, Word, and Google Workspace. Veterinary Assistance experience preferred.Schedule:
Full-time/ Part time (32 hours/week). Shifts to support surgery days and daily needs. Availability on weekends and holidays as required.Benefits:
